SPECIAL EVENT COLUMBIA RIVER HALF IRONMAN COMMISSIONERS
Mandy Buchholz, Office Administrator, provided an update regarding a
Special Event Application submitted by Mr. Brisbois. The application
and associated fee were received on May 28, 2026, shortly before the
proposed event date. Following receipt of the application, County
departments conducted their review and identified several questions,
concerns, and required revisions that needed to be addressed before
approval could be considered.
Comments and requested changes from the Prosecutor's Office were
provided to the applicant on June 1, 2026, and comments from
Environmental Health were provided on June 2, 2026. As of the review
date, responses addressing those comments had not been received.
Public Works and the Sheriff's Office also worked with the applicant
to obtain additional information and resolve outstanding concerns;
however, those matters remained unresolved. Additionally, not all
reviewing departments had completed their review and provided
recommendations.
Staff feels there is no other option but to recommend denial due to
the limited time available before the proposed event date, the
inability to complete the required interdepartmental review process,
and unresolved departmental concerns.
The Board concurred and denied the Special Event Application for
2026. Staff stated they would send a formal letter to the applicant
& encourage the applicant to submit any future applications with
sufficient lead time to allow for a complete review and coordination
process.
