lnspector Note: 20 flx4.6 ft x 2.8ft build of base course build. We were instructed to take the mucky non yielding clay materiel down to a solid base
which in this case on the upper footing on the stadium arena seating in the southe@st corner had a hefty over excavation to it. With 6
in lifts were installed. ln the same area there was a tapered off of the previously noted build where the over excavation was not as
deep with a20 ftx 4.6ft x 1ft build. ln the case with the builds being so deep the 1 ft perimeter over build was slightly bigger to a 1.5ft
on the east side of the footing to account for edge sluffing off to create a solid base.

There was an engineering error on depths on an already dug footing the had already had a .5 over excavation don't in the spread
footing location. Wtfr wai already at the groundwater depth it was a f9.5 footing callout and the depth of bottle. Of footing was
1568.00 which was about .75 below the water table.
This build was an error on the engineers behalf and really should have been a bottom of footing at 1569.5.
This was all built up with base course and compacted in.
This task took a hour
The other half hour on this days T&M was the amount of time to over excavate the east building continues footing locations in
between the spread footings.
The continues footing on this building stays about .75 higher then the spread footings. ln this separations of elevations between the
two builds is the difference of the spiead footings being on a non yielding surface and the continues footing wall being on a yielding
surface beyond what would pass for a stable base. Over excavation is essential into getting our stable non yielding base to build on.

So when we were digging out the stadium continues footing between the north and west buildings the layer of soil that was a load
bearing approved materiel per the geo was 1-2feel lower then most of the other areas. Which this day we had 2 6 in lifts done across

location. Wth was already at the groundwater depth it was a f9.5 footing callout and the depth of bottle. Of footing was 1568.00 which was
.75 below the water table.
This build was an error on the engineers behalf and really should have been a bottom of footing at 1569.5.
This was all built up with base course and compacted in.
This task took a hour
The other half hour on this days T&M was the amount of time to over excavate the east building continues footing locations in between the
spread footings.
The continues footing on this building stays about .75 higher then the spread footings. ln this separations of elevations between the two b
the difference of the spread footings being on a non yielding surface and the continues footing wall being on a yielding surface beyond wha
would pass for a stable base. Over excavation is essential into getting our stable non yielding base to build on.

RFI DESCRIPTION
The attached SK-1 '16.1 reflects the layout required by the Fire Marshal, which includes maintaining 3 feet of clear spacing on all sides with
bollards due to potential vehicle and trailer traffic.
As shown, this configuration occupies approximately half of the sidewalk and with multiple underground utilities, making excavation in this
area challenging.
A more suitable location would be near the hydrant. Additionally, local code does not require the PIV to be connected to the fire alarm
system. Please confirm whether the Plv is required to be tied into the fire alarm system.
lf a connection is not required, relocating the PIV near the hydrant would be a more cost-effective solution. lf a connection is required, it
would necessitate trenching across the iite again; however, this alternative location would still be more practical from a constructability
standpoint.

It is recommended io utilize the fire alarm system to provide supervision of the Post lndicator Valve (PlV). lt is not necessarily required to be
tied into the fire alarm system however, per trlFpR 13, Section 16.9.3.3.1 it is required to be supervised to prevent accidental shutoff'
Acceptable methods of supervision are identified below:
1, Electronically: Monitored by a central station, proprietary, or remote station signaling service.
2. Local Alarm: A local signaling service that notifies building occupants of a valve closure.
3. Locking: Valves are locked in the open posilion.
4. Sealinj': Valves are sealed within fenced enclosures under control ol the owner, with inspections conducted weekly.
