ACTION REQUESTED:
Approval to authorize a Board of County Commissioner Public Hearing to consider community
development and housing needs, inform citizens of the availability of funds and eligible uses of
the state Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), and receive comments on proposed
activities, particularly from lower income persons residing in the Kittitas County area.
Comments on Kittitas County and Hopesource past performance and use of the prior CDBG
Public Services Grants will also be received.
BACKGROUND:
The Washington State CDBG program annually awards 17 non-entitlement (smaller rural
county, that does not get direct federal funding) counties. The goal of funding is to provide
services to address the root causes of poverty and help low-income families and individuals
regain or retain self-sufficiency. Award amounts are based on a formula regarding service area
population and poverty rate. In previous years, these funds were utilized by Hopesource for
Hope University.
