AGENDA STAFF REPORT
AGENDA DATE: May 5, 2026
ACTION REQUESTED: Request to set a public hearing for the use of Title III funds to
improve/update Kittitas County Search and Rescue equipment.
BACKGROUND: The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office’s has received Title III funds
from the US Forest Service through Washington State. Title III funds, under P.L. 115-
141, section 302(a)(2) provides that Title III funds may be used to reimburse counties for
search and rescue and other emergency response activities, including firefighting and law
enforcement patrols, performed on national forests. It is our intention to spend these
funds to improve/update equipment within our Search and Rescue Division.
INTERACTION: The Title III rules have been reviewed, and our process has been
approved by the Kittitas County Prosecutor’s Office.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve request to set a public hearing to allow the public to
comment on the intended use of Title III funds.
