Our committee is dedicated to supporting events that not only draw visitors to our community but also contribute to its long-term vitality and prosperity. To this end, we are particularly focused on the following criteria for 2026: Off-Season Events: We are eager to fund events that take place during off-peak times, as these have the potential to stimulate economic activity during typically slower periods. Priority will be given to proposals for new events that diversify our community's offerings and attract visitors throughout the year. Junk-tiquen elevates this by curating 65+ vendors from across the Pacific Northwest who specialize in antiques, repurposed décor, handmade goods, and rare collectibles. Booths are often elaborately staged with vintage trailers, themed displays, and Instagram-worthy backdrops that make the event both visually stunning and highly shareable. Attendees don’t just shop, they wander through curated spaces, connect with makers, sip coffee, and enjoy the festive atmosphere. For many, it’s about the experience as much as the purchase: who they meet, what they discover, and the memories they create. Ellensburg’s central location makes it an ideal meeting point for friends and families traveling from Seattle, Spokane, the Tri- Cities, Yakima, and beyond, including Oregon and Idaho. The timing of our shows adds seasonal appeal: spring blossoms in April and vibrant autumn colors in October. Key Partnerships Include: • Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce – We leverage member promotions, bulletins, and networking opportunities to increase visibility and direct attendees to local resources. • Local Businesses & Markets (Jensen Farms, Thorp Fruit & Antique Mall, Sassy Trash Market, Ellensburg Night Market, The Barn Door) – Through flyer distribution, social media collaboration, and cross-promotion, we attract a wider range of visitors and highlight local agriculture and artisan businesses. • Hospitality Partners (Holiday Inn Express) – We secure room blocks for attendees, ensuring convenient accommodations that support tourism and local lodging. • Tasting Rooms & Restaurants (Valo Tasting Room, Gard Vintners, Ellensburg Pasta, Bruce’s Place, Kittitas Café, Sunset Café) – Discount promotions and cross-advertising campaigns help drive traffic to these establishments while enriching the visitor experience. • Nonprofits & Community Groups (Menastash Grange 1054, and various Young Entrepreneurs in Kittitas County) – We provide donated space for fundraising efforts, youth entrepreneurs, and community initiatives, creating opportunities for engagement and support beyond the event itself. By fostering these collaborations, our event becomes more than a gathering, it serves as a platform for local businesses, nonprofits, and community members to thrive together. Each partnership is designed to be mutually beneficial, whether by increasing exposure, generating revenue, or building community connections. These efforts not only strengthen the event but also contribute to the broader economic and cultural vitality of Kittitas County. Our goal is to ensure that attendees leave with a sense of connection, to the community, to local businesses, and to each other, creating a ripple effect of positive impact that extends far beyond the event itself. 2500 character limit Promoting lodging establishments, restaurants, and businesses in Kittitas County is a core element of our event marketing strategy. We want visitors to view Junk-tiquen not as a single event, but as an opportunity to discover the full range of experiences our community offers. By integrating local businesses into our outreach, we create a more complete visitor experience while supporting the county’s economic vitality. Website & Digital Presence: • Accommodations Listings: We highlight area hotels and inns on our website, including information about special room blocks and rates secured for Junk-tiquen attendees. • Dining Guides: Local restaurants and cafes are featured with links to menus, promotions, and special offers for visitors. • Community Connections: We provide links to downtown associations, wineries, tasting rooms, and other local events to encourage extended stays and exploration. Collaborative Promotions: • Discount Programs: We partner with restaurants, tasting rooms, and shops to create exclusive promotions for attendees. These offers are shared through social media, email campaigns, and printed materials, providing direct incentives for visitors to dine and shop locally. • Cross-Marketing: Businesses share our event information while we promote their services, creating mutual visibility and shared audiences. • Print & On-Site Materials: Flyers, posters, and event guides highlight local establishments, ensuring visitors have easy access to nearby dining, lodging, and shopping opportunities. Visitor Experience Enhancement: This cross-promotional approach ensures attendees feel connected not only to the event but also to the wider Kittitas County community. By weaving in local businesses at every stage—before, during, and after the event—we help drive tourism dollars into the community and encourage repeat visits. 2500 character limit Response 4.3: Is there a host hotel for your event or grant project? If yes, list the hotel.* 5| Future Plans Response 5: Please explain what plans exist to allow this project to become self-sustaining. Include any plans for ticket sales, event sponsors, and other cost-recovery models.* No Yes Holiday Inn Express 1. Reinvestment & Revenue Growth • Profit Allocation: A portion of profits from each event will be reinvested into future shows to strengthen marketing, expand programming, and enhance the overall attendee and vendor experience. • Vendor & Admission Fees: We will conduct regular evaluations of vendor fees and ticket pricing to ensure they remain affordable while supporting financial sustainability. 2. Sponsorship Development • We are actively pursuing sponsorships from local businesses and organizations. Sponsors will benefit from event visibility, cross-promotion, and the opportunity to be recognized as community partners, while their support offsets event costs and increases our marketing capacity. 3. Collaborative Partnerships • By continuing to partner with local restaurants, lodging establishments, nonprofits, and other community events, we expand our audience reach, share resources, and reduce marketing costs through joint promotions. 4. In-Kind Contributions • We plan to increase the use of in-kind trade, working with local vendors and service providers who can contribute to goods or services in exchange for promotional opportunities. This approach reduces expenses while strengthening community ties. 5. Cost Recovery & Contingency Planning • We are mindful of rising venue costs and the need to maintain accessible facilities. Our long-term plan includes evaluating alternative venues and cost-recovery models to ensure the event remains financially viable, even as expenses change. 6. Ongoing Monitoring & Adaptability • We will regularly analyze attendance trends, community feedback, and financial data to guide decisions on pricing, programming, and resource allocation. This data-driven approach ensures we can adapt to evolving market conditions and continue meeting community needs. By combining these strategies, Junk-tiquen will not only sustain itself year after year but also grow as a signature event that generates economic impact, fosters community pride, and creates lasting value for Kittitas County. 2500 character limit Application Questions: Part 4 6| Additional Information Response 6.1: Provide any additional information which will assist the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee in evaluating your project and its benefit to tourism. Junk-tiquen in the Burg has grown into a signature event that continues to draw both shoppers and vendors from across the region. Our vendor spaces consistently sell out, and we maintain a waiting list—evidence of strong demand and the event’s reputation as a must-attend vintage market. While the COVID-19 pandemic temporarily slowed our momentum, we are committed to building back stronger and continuing a steady growth trajectory. Recognition & Awards: • 2018: Named one of the “Top Vintage Shows to Attend” by Flea Market Gardens, as voted by readers. • 2017: Recognized as one of the “Top 12 Vintage Markets in the United States” by Flea Market Décor. Application Clarification: This application represents one program, Junk-tiquen in the Burg, but covers two events held annually. While vendor lineups differ, both events operate under the same brand and mission. Initially, we were encouraged to submit two applications but were later advised to combine them into one. Actual numbers and Budget Note: As of the application deadline, our fall show has not yet taken place, so current attendance figures reflect data from 2024. Consequently, the 2025 budget remains incomplete. While preliminary numbers indicate a temporary shortfall, we expect the year to balance out once revenue from the fall show is in. Importance of the Grant: The Lodging Tax grant has been instrumental in helping Junk-tiquen grow. It has allowed us to expand advertising reach, attract a broader audience, and enhance the overall visitor experience. Continued support will allow us to build on this momentum, drawing even more visitors to Kittitas County. Benefits of Continued Support: • Increased Visitor Attendance: Expanded marketing will attract more out-of-area shoppers, boosting attendance and visibility. • Encouraging Overnight Stays: Visitors traveling from outside the region are likely to book accommodations, benefiting local lodging providers. • Boosting Ancillary Spending: Increased attendance generates more spending in restaurants, shops, and service businesses throughout the county. • Enhancing Community Experience: A growing, diverse audience enriches the event atmosphere and strengthens community pride. We are deeply grateful for the opportunities this grant program provides. With continued support, Junk-tiquen in the Burg will not only remain a premier vintage market but also continue contributing to the economic vitality, cultural richness, and tourism growth of Kittitas County. 2500 character limit Response 6.2: You may upload any supporting documents such as graphs, images, diagrams, marketing materials, etc. You are allowed to submit up to 3 single page (US Letter) documents in JPG, PDF or TIFF format Show comments.pdf 1.67MB Flea Market Decor award.pdf 738.88KB 7| Previous Lodging Tax Grant Information Response 7.1: Has your event received Lodging Tax funds in previous years?* No, this event/project has not previously received Lodging Tax Funding Yes, 1 year previous Yes, 2 years previous Yes, 3 years previous Yes, 4 or more years previous Response 7.2: Overall Attendance * Past Actual *Projected * 4,119 4,325 Response 7.3: Number of people travelling more than 50 miles for your event?* Past Actual *Projected * 2,089 2,162 Response 7.4: Number of people traveling from outside WA State for your event?* Past Actual *Projected * 42 43 Response 7.5: The number of overnight guests who stay in paid accommodations in Kittitas County for your event?* Past Actual *Projected * 310 302 Response 7.6: Number of paid lodging room nights resulting from you event/activity/facility?* Past Actual *Projected * 155 162 Response 7.7: In addition to fields above, you may upload the evidence to support the prior years' room/night information. To effectively measure the success and tourism impact of Junk-tiquen Vintage Markets, we use a structured and data-informed approach. This allows us to accurately assess attendance, visitor demographics, travel patterns, and economic contribution to Kittitas County. 1. Direct Attendance Counts: We conduct a direct count of all attendees and vendors at each event. This provides reliable baseline data for measuring event scale and tracking year-over-year growth. 2. Informal On-Site and Post-Event Surveys: We collect feedback through informal surveys conducted before, during, and after the event. These are administered both in- person and digitally (via email and QR codes). The surveys provide insight into: • Attendee origin, including the percentage traveling from more than 50 miles • The number of overnight stays in local accommodations • Visitor spending habits and duration of stay • How attendees learned about the event (marketing channel tracking) 3. Data-Driven Estimation Process: We apply the percentages collected from survey responses to our verified attendance numbers. For example, if 52% of respondents indicate they traveled from more than 50 miles, we apply that percentage to the total attendee count to estimate the volume of tourists. Similarly, we estimate overnight stays based on reported lodging use. This method provides a reliable way to quantify the event’s contribution to hotel occupancy, restaurant visits, and overall tourism-related spending in the area. 4. Continuous Improvement and Strategic Use: Survey data and analytics are reviewed after each event to identify trends, measure marketing effectiveness, and refine outreach strategies. This feedback loop helps us improve the visitor experience, strengthen vendor relations, and enhance promotional targeting in key regions. 2500 character limit Application Questions: Part 5 Yes No Junk-tiquen in the Burg has not pursued or received grant funding from other sources, as we have not identified additional opportunities that align well with our current organizational structure. At this time, we are solely reliant on this grant opportunity and the dedication of our volunteer base to support the event’s success. We are deeply grateful for the support provided by this grant and for the incredible commitment of our volunteers. Their efforts not only help reduce operational costs but also strengthen the event’s community-centered foundation. • Estimated Volunteer Hours (2025): 1,652 hours • Estimated Value: At $23.56/hour, this represents approximately $38,921.12 in contributed time Per Independent Sector the value of volunteer hours in Washington State for 2025 is $34.79/hour. This would increase the value of volunteer hours to $57,473.10. This significant in-kind support enables us to focus our limited financial resources on high-priority areas such as marketing, venue rental, insurance, and event infrastructure. While we have not received outside funding beyond this grant, we continue to explore potential opportunities that could help us expand and enhance the event in the future. 2500 character limit Response 8.3: What changes will be made if funding for your request is not available or recommended?* Matching Funds Percentage 9| Project Budget Overview Please complete budget for this project/proposal. If your agency operates independently of this project application it may not be necessary to submit the entire agency budget. You must submit a budget which specifically pertains to the project/event for which you are requesting funding and adheres to the basic budget format shown below. The budget must include anticipated revenues, expenditures, and any potential profit or loss. For projects/events which are ongoing for more than one (1) year, please also submit actuals from the previous three (3) years of operations (need not be consecutive) for the project/proposal if applicable. For any claimed in-kind contributions valued at $500 or more and related to marketing/advertising, you must submit verifying documentation which assures the contribution will be provided. For instance, if you are claiming in-kind contributions in the form of advertising match, a binding contract itemizing the matching value and obligating each party must be provided. ATTENTION: In an effort to allow an adequate level of flexibility for all applicants, not all fields in the budget portion are required to be filled before this form is submitted. Providing all applicable data is your responsibility, failure to do so will potentially jeopardize your application's chance for review. Budget Year Edit if necessary The grant plays a critical role in sustaining the success of Junk-tiquen in the Burg. Strategic and consistent marketing is essential to attract attendees from beyond our local area, and this funding directly supports those efforts. With continued grant support, we can focus on revitalizing the event to pre-COVID levels and ensure it remains a vibrant, highly anticipated experience for both residents and tourists. Your support helps us bring increased visibility, tourism, and economic benefit to Kittitas County. If funding is reduced or unavailable, we would be required to make thoughtful adjustments across several key areas to maintain the viability of the event: 1. Location Evaluation: We would reassess the affordability of our current venue. If rental costs become unsustainable without grant support, we may need to consider alternative locations that are more cost-effective while still meeting the event’s logistical needs. 2. Event Size and Scope: We may need to scale back the size of the event—potentially reducing the number of vendors, available booth space, or programming features. A smaller footprint would allow us to maintain quality while operating within a leaner budget. 3. Marketing Strategy: Marketing is one of our largest and most impactful expenses. Without grant funding, we would need to reduce or eliminate targeted advertising in key tourism markets outside of Kittitas County. We would focus instead on low-cost or organic channels, though this would limit our reach and growth potential. 4. Budget Reassessment and Community Support: We would conduct a full budget review to prioritize critical needs. To offset cuts, we would increase efforts to secure in-kind contributions, local sponsorships, and volunteer support to fill operational gaps where possible. While reduced funding would present challenges, we are committed to continuing Junk-tiquen in some form. By focusing on our core strengths—strong vendor relationships, dedicated volunteers, and community spirit—we would adapt as needed to keep the event alive, even if on a smaller scale.
