KITTITAS COUNTY <br />Board of County Commissioners <br /> <br />STAFF REPORT FOR PUBLIC HEARING <br /> <br />DATE: October 21, 2024 <br /> <br />ACTION REQUESTED: Request to Approve a Resolution to Authorize Approval of <br />the Payment of the Claim for Damages Presented by Jason <br />and April Bell and Authorizing Washington Counties <br />Insurance Pool to Issue a Warrant for said Claim . <br /> <br />BACKGROUND: An employee of the Kittitas Valley Event Center, while in <br />the scope of his duties, caused a ladder to strike and <br />damage Jason and April Bell’s truck. KVEC Director Kady <br />Porterfield spoke with Jason Bell, who was the electrician <br />for the 2025 Kittitas County Fair, and provided him with a <br />claim form to complete. The Prosecutor’s Office sent a <br />letter to Mr. and Mrs. Bell sending him an additional claim <br />form to which he returned to the Prosecutor’s Office with a <br />damage estimate. The Prosecutor’s Office and Ms. <br />Porterfield agreed that this claim should be presented to the <br />Board for approval of payment. <br /> <br />INTERACTION: The Prosecutor’s Office works with the Washington <br />Counties Risk Pool to provide payment to the claimants, <br />and will send out a Release of All Claims to the Bells once <br />this Resolution is executed. WCRP will then bill the <br />County for the balance and the Auditor will bill the Event <br />Center. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION: Sign the Resolution Authorizing the payment of the Bells’ <br />claim for damages. <br /> <br /> <br />ATTACHMENT: Draft Resolution. <br /> <br />LEAD STAFF: Miko Tempski, Civil Deputy Prosecuting Attorney <br /> Kady Porterfield, KVEC Director
