KITTITAS COUNTY <br />DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS <br />AGENDA STAFF REPORT <br />AGENDA DATE: May 6, 2025 <br />ACTION REQUESTED: Request to schedule a Public Hearing for May 20, 2025, at <br />the 2:00 PM local time to consider a Speed Reduction on <br />Umptanum Road from MP 1.00 to MP 2.68. <br />BACKGROUND: On December 20, 2024, Public Works received a request to <br />reduce the posted speed on Umptanum Road from 50 MPH <br />to 35 MPH from MP 1.00 to MP 1.69. Public Works began <br />working through initial screening criteria. The request <br />indicated that the speed limit in the school zone is often not <br />followed and that driving conditions regularly put students, <br />parents, and staff at risk, noting several recent land use <br />changes. <br />On April 14, 2025, the Board directed Public Works to <br />update the speed study to include the additional road section <br />from MP 1.69 to MP 2.68. <br />A Public Hearing is required by County code to consider the <br />merits of the speed reduction request. At the public hearing, <br />the County Engineer will provide the Board with the <br />Engineer's Report addressing the speed reduction request. <br />INTERACTION: Public Works <br />RECOMMENDATION: Request to schedule a Public Hearing for May 20, 2025, at <br />the 2:00 PM local time to consider a Speed Reduction on <br />Umptanum Road from MP 1.00 to MP 2.68. <br />HANDLING: Return one (1) Notice of Public Hearing to Public Works. <br />ATTACHMENTS: Notice of Public Hearing; Location Map <br />LEAD STAFF: Cameron Curtis, County Engineer <br />
