KITTITAS COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA STAFF REPORT AGENDA DATE: May 6, 2025 ACTION REQUESTED: Request to Approve a Special Event Application for the GRiT – Snoqualmie Pass on July 19, 2025. BACKGROUND: The Commissioner’s office received a Special Event Application from Erik Olson to host the GRiT – Snoqualmie Pass to be held on July 19, 2025. INTERACTION: Staff forwarded the event application to the following departments for review: Public Works, Fire Marshal, Solid Waste, Public Health, Prosecutor, Treasurer and Sheriff. The applicant is requesting a waiver to the following: Kittitas County Code Chapter 5.20.100 – Penal Bond – Bond of Indemnity - The applicant HAS provided proof of insurance & endorsements and feels their event will have no impact on the roads. The applicant does not believe they need a waiver to the following: Kittitas County Code Chapter 5.20.160 – Closing Hours since their event is scheduled to begin at 7:00 a.m. & go until 8:00 p.m. and according to the County Code, events shall not be open to the public before the hour of 7:00 a.m. RECOMMENDATION: Contingent approval with the following Department recommendations: Treasurer: The Event will be required to report and remit Admissions Tax for the event by August 19, 2025 and they will need to create and file an admissions tax registration, noting they did a great job reporting and remitting for the last event. Public Works: Requested notice two weeks in advance of the event published in the Daily Record and Northern Kittitas County Tribune as well as Placement of “Cyclists on Roadway” and “Caution – Cyclists Ahead” placed on Kachess Lake Road on the day of the event; Flaggers and/ or Traffic Control on Kachess Lake Road where participants are entering and exiting the roadway.
