Cook, Director
CC:
TO:
FROM:
DATE:
SUBJECT
MEMORANDUM
Kittitas County Board of County Commissioners
Candie Leader, Gontracts Specialist
Ryan Berge, Maintenance Manager
February 26,2024
Hl90 Grindy Special Event Application
After review of the special event application for the HlgO Grindy scheduled for June 8,
2024, Public Works has found that the applicant has identified that this event will not
obstruct, interfere, or require the closure and free use of public roads and rights of way.
As this event does not require closures or roadway detours, this is unordinary road use
that the traveling public is not routinely exposed to. The amount of bicycle traffic will,
however, obstruct and interfere with normal motorized vehicle use. Public Works will
require traffic control to be implemented for this event. This may include large orange
"Bikes on Roadway" signs placed along the route and intersections. Safety of both the
event participants and the traveling public would benefit from advanced warning signs
being implemented as the risk of bicycle and motorized vehicle conflicts would be
reduced.
Additionally, the applicant will be required to issue advanced notification for the event
and any traffic impacts in the Daily Record and the Northern Kittitas County Tribune two
weeks in advance to inform the public.
Public Works recommends approval of this event based on these conditions being
upheld.
Feel free to contact Kittitas County Public Works at 509-962-7523 with any questions
41'l N.
