10/11/2023 MINUTES 1 <br />COMMISSIONERS' MINUTES <br />KITTITAS COUNTY, WASHINGTON <br />EASTON SCHOOL GYMNASIUM – EASTON, WA <br />SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />WEDNESDAY 4:00 P.M. OCTOBER 11, 2023 <br /> <br />Board members present: Chairman Cory Wright; Vice-Chairman Brett <br />Wachsmith; and Commissioner Laura Osiadacz. <br /> <br />Others: Julie Kjorsvik, Clerk of the Board; Mandy Buchholz, Office <br />Administrator; Mark Cook, Public Works/CDS Director; and <br />approximately 67 members of the public. <br /> <br />SPECIAL MEETING TOWN HALL MEETING COMMISSIONERS <br /> <br />At 4:00 p.m. CHAIRMAN WRIGHT opened a Special Meeting to provide <br />information on various topics about the County and projects the <br />Board has been working on. <br /> <br />The Commissioners reviewed a power-point that included an overview <br />of County government, Commissioner functions, youth projects, mental <br />health programs, public safety/law & justice; partnerships with <br />cities and other organizations, roads and infrastructure, water and <br />floodplain projects, building department statistics, economic <br />development, service expectations, land use, and challenges. <br /> <br />There was an opportunity for questions and answers from citizens in <br />attendance. Some of the questions raised by citizens included what <br />the County is doing to obtain affordable broadband; does the County <br />employ or contract with grant writers; water programs and water <br />bank; the effects from short term rentals; trash on roadways; a <br />proposed truck stop; encouragement to take the opportunity to <br />volunteer and become involved; the Steer I-90 group isn’t addressing <br />impacts; increase in population to the Easton area and the impacts <br />to schools; propose the use of ARPA funds do a current assessment of <br />the area; no law enforcement presence during blasting & snow <br />closures and enforcement of no-parking areas; assistance with the <br />helipad upgrades; leaking of the irrigation ditches going down to <br />the lower valley and loss of water; I-90 closures and allowing <br />residents to get through to their homes; additional assistance from <br />the County Building Department with development concerns; <br /> <br />The Board acknowledged how they want to hear from community members <br />and use the information provided to help form policy and County Code <br />into the future. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
