COMMISSIONERS' MINUTES
KITTITAS COUNTY, WASHINGTON
UPPER DISTRICT COURT – CLE ELUM, WA
SPECIAL MEETING
THURSDAY 5:30 P.M. SEPTEMBER 14, 2023
Board members present: Chairman Cory Wright; Vice-Chairman Brett
Wachsmith; and Commissioner Laura Osiadacz.
Others: Julie Kjorsvik, Clerk of the Board; Mandy Buchholz, Office
Administrator; Mark Cook, Public Works/CDS Director; Clay Myers,
Sheriff; Darren Higashiyama, Chief Deputy; and 14 members of the
public.
SPECIAL MEETING TOWN HALL MEETING COMMISSIONERS
At 5:30 p.m. CHAIRMAN WRIGHT opened a Special Meeting to provide
information on various topics about the County and projects the
Board has been working on.
The Commissioners reviewed a power-point that included an overview
of County government, Commissioner functions, youth projects, mental
health programs, public safety/law & justice; partnerships with
cities and other organizations, roads and infrastructure, water and
floodplain projects, building department statistics, economic
development, service expectations, land use, and challenges.
There was an opportunity for questions and answers from citizens in
attendance.
Some of the questions raised by citizens were related to wetlands
within the County, water rights, proposed solutions to problems with
staffing by offering internships from students at Central Washington
University; Broadband; concerns from the Easton community and litter
that comes from I-90 travelers; a request for a Town Hall meeting in
Easton; more advertisement for the Town Hall meetings; draft a
Management Plan for the development in Easton; affordable housing
needs; and concerns of vacation rentals.
The meeting was concluded at 7:12 p.m.
