<br /> <br />PROCLAMATION <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Constitution Day and Citizenship Day 2023 <br /> <br />WHEREAS: the Constitution of the United States of America, which guarantees priceless freedoms to us as <br />citizens of the United States and to our posterity and sets forth a concept of liberty that has been an inspiration to <br />freedom-loving people everywhere, takes on still deeper meaning in these days of civil unrest; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS: by joint resolution approved December 8, 2004 (36 U.S.C. 106), the Congress of the United States <br />has designated the seventeenth day of September of each year as Constitution Day and Citizenship Day in <br />commemoration of the signing on September 17, 1787, of the Constitution of the United States and in recognition <br />of all who, by coming of age or by naturalization, enjoy the privileges and assume the responsibilities of <br />citizenship; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS: the aforesaid resolution urges the civil and educational authorities of States, counties, cities, and <br />towns to make plans for the proper observance of Constitution Day and Citizenship Day and for the complete <br />instruction of citizens in their responsibilities and opportunities as citizens of the United States and of the State and <br />locality in which they reside; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS: every year, thousands of candidates for citizenship commemorate Constitution Day and Citizenship <br />Day by becoming American citizens. These men and women have respected our laws and learned our history, some <br />have served in our military. Whereas we laud the desire of anyone to fulfill the dream of becoming a citizen of the <br />United States of America, and we welcome all who naturalize into our community to join us in writing the next <br />great chapter of the American story, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS: we remember the oath taken by all applicants who wish to become citizens: "I do solemnly swear that <br />I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; and that I <br />will well and faithfully discharge my duties and responsibilities as a citizen of the United States.'' Whereas a <br />celebration of Constitution Day and Citizenship Day is planned and scheduled to be held at 2:00 p.m. on September <br />17, 2023, near the Rotary Pavilion in Ellensburg, Washington, and all residents and visitors in Kittitas County are <br />invited to attend, and <br /> <br />Therefore, the Kittitas County Board of Commissioners hereby proclaim September 17th, 2023, as Constitution <br />Day and Citizenship Day in Kittitas County and encourages all residents to join us in attending the Constitution <br />Day and Citizenship Day celebration near Rotary Pavilion to reaffirm our commitment to a strong adherence to the <br />foundational principles put forth in our Constitutions and laws for naturalization citizenship. <br /> <br />Dated this 5th day of September 2023. <br /> KITTITAS COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> <br /> <br /> Cory Wright, Chairman <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br /> Brett Wachsmith, Vice-Chairman <br /> <br /> <br />Julie Kjorsvik, Clerk of the Board Laura Osiadacz, Commissioner
