PROCLAMATION <br />I]\TERNATIONAL OVERDOSE AWARENESS DAY <br />AUGUST 31,2023 <br />WHEREAS: Kittitas county does affirm and acknowledge the harm and hardship causecl by drug overdose; and <br />WHERBAS: we recognize the purpose of Intenrational overdose Awareness Day as remembering loved ones lostto overdose and ending the stigma of drug-related deaths; and <br />wEREAS: we resolve to play our part in reducing the toll of overdose in our community, which claimed the livesof nearly 2'500 washington State residents in the /ear 2022 wi-rh c,ountless more affected forever; and <br />wHERf,As: we recognize from July 2022through June 2a23 Kiftitas cou'ty EMS have responded ro over [50Substance Use related calls; and <br />WHBREAS: we recogniz'e that fiom July 2022 through June 2023 Kittitas Counry has lost 7 individuals rooverdose; and <br />WHBREAS: we affirm that the people affected by overdose are our sons and daughters, our mothers and fathers,our brothers and sisters and deserving ofour rour, <br />"o*pur;i"r;';nl.r*pport; and <br />WHEREAS: More peoplc die from ovel'doses than from gun violence and vehicle accidents comtrinecl; and <br />WHEREAS: Death lrom overdose is preventahle; ancl <br />WHERBAS: T'here continues to be deaths from stimulant use; and <br />WHERBAS: overdoses continuc to increase both rnedical and othcr economic costs greatly impacting our society;and <br />WHEREAS: substance tjse Disorder is a treatable disease, and thc stigma and shame often are a barrier to seekinghelp; and <br />Now''I'H[REFoRE' Bf, IT REsoLvED: 'l]he Kittitas county Board ol-commissioners does hereby proclaimAugust 3l'1,2023, as lnternational overdose Awaleness nay which will be honored with an event on the day atMr:untain View Park fiam l0:00 a.m. to l:00 p.m, <br />Adopted this l5th day of August2023. <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ATTEST: <br />k,of La ura Osiadacz, Commissioner
