Summary: The Kittitas County Veterans Advisory Board has recommended changing the definition of a
Veteran in section 3.1 of the Financial Assistance Policy to include any servicemember who has been
discharged from the armed forces, except for those who have received a dishonorable discharge.
Current policy defines eligible veterans as those who have received honorable or medical discharges.
RCW 73.08.005 requires the county legislative authority in consultation with the VAB to authorize any
changes to the definition of eligible veterans.

At the May 12th VAB meeting. The Board voted to recommend a change to the definition in the financial
assistance policy. This change would go into effect with the approval of the BOCC.
Recommendation: BOCC considers approving the change in language as it reflects the intent of the VAB
to maximize the availability of services to local veterans.
