KITTITAS COUNTY
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
2023 AGENDA STAFF REPORT
AGENDA DATE: March 7, 2023
ACTION REQUESTED: Request to approve a Resolution to Adopt the proposed
Public Works "Survey Monument Preservation" policy.
BACKGROUND: In 2022 the County Road Administration Board (CRAB)
revised WAC 136-50-050 adding requirement for counties
to include a policy for survey monument preservation. For
several years Kittitas County has had a Memorandum of
Understanding (MOU) with Department of Natural
Resources (DNR) regarding survey monument
preservation. Since the formation of the County Surveyor
position in Public Works, recovering monuments has been
included as an annual work program element.
With updated requirements a formal monument
preservation policy has been drafted. This policy includes
work items which are already part of Public Works'
practice for preserving survey monuments within the right-
of-way. This policy formally acknowledges those practices.
INTERACTION: Public Works.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the Resolution to Adopt the proposed Public
Works Policy "Survey Monument Preservation".
HANDLING: Return one original to Public Works.
ATTACHMENTS: Resolution; Survey Monument Preservation Policy
LEAD STAFF: Joshua Fredrickson, County Engineer.
