We also joined the Suncadia Sunday Market and look forward to the Roslyn Market in 2022. Finally, we added camping accomodations at the farm. The feedback we've gotten from guests over the past several years gives us a three part answer to this question. One, they like the working farm. non-commercial feel of our patch. We offer an authentic, wholesome. fall farm experience - and that's something lhat those caught up in the rat race are craving. Two. we have the best weatherl Our westside pumpkin counterparts are constallily battling fall weather. Parking lots flood, corn mazes tuin to mud and guest numbers drop. While we run into the occasional ran each year. it's nothing in comparison to what the westside patches see - and it certainly doesn't affect our operations the way it does there. Three, a visit to the punrpkin patch is a deeply rooted annual tradition for a lot of people - and they are looking to make the most of it. This includes making a weekend adventure or day trip out of the experience. Another component that we're seeing as a result of Covid is that other paiches are permanently altering their operations. With Covid as tlre catalyst, many patches turned to timed ticketing to control guest numbers (i.e. guests musi buy their ticket in advance, for a specific day and time). And. the agritourism operators loved it, but guests did not. We are not a timed tickei event. nor do we see the need to go this direction anytinre in the near future. 2500 characiei llmii Desr:rbe the Frior success of vailt ev--nlracitvily:facility in atlraciion iL]uflsis. We have always worked hard to attract folks from the westside, Yakima and Wenatchee areas. And, we have done so with a lot of success. We employ an on- site raffle. which requires pertinent information in orderto enter 1i.e. nanre. email, zip code, are you staying overnight and how many night). We also use on-site in-person surveys. Based on the information we've captured through these methods. we know that typically about 40% of our guests are from outside the couniy. Howevel that number jumped exponentially in 202A b 52%, given that sr'rrrounding counties had tighter Covid/agritourism restrictions. While we expect many "Covid guests" to go back to their'"usual" pumpkin patch this year, we expect that many will also be back. Given that this application is being submitted afier our 2021 evenl has kicked off, we can report that our non-county guest numbers are in fact up from 2019 - leading us to believe that we will we retain a percentage of our new 2020 guests ultimately fall somewhere between 2019 and 2020 tn overall attendance. 2500 chatacler limJi '':.',. Third. we buy space in visitor guides that are distributed throughout the sprrnglsunrmer months - aimed at tourists already here. I c.t d After '.vigorous" dialogue with the Governor's office and support by the county. we were able to proceed with our event in 2O20...and what an event that was! We had a lot of successes last year. First. we ended our event with no staff/fantily Covid cases and no cases raced back to the farm. We worked hard and were very diligent in keeping everyone safe. Second. we saw a record number of guests. with our out-of-county guests estimaied at topping 50% of our visitors. The challenges last year were also plentiful. One. there was a lot of work and tirne involved in running during Covid. Second. the costs were extreme. For example, the food service gloves we use were typically $Slbox. ln 2020 they were $70 for the same box and we neecled lOttmes as many. This is 1r.ist one example. but overall the cost of various goods was high Third, are labor costs were lhrough the roof. Typtcally, nrost of our staff are tied to a source of direct revenue (i.e. concession workers are generating food revenue. etc.) ln 2020. we were ntore than 25% over jn Iabor costs due to staffthat sinrply disinfected and cleaned things all day. Fourth, we had change our operations to meet Covid requirements. For example. we had buy single use condjments, we purchased an Ag scale to eliminate touching pumpkins. etc. - these changes. as well as the long list of others. led to a lot of extra costs. Fifth, we had to pr"rrchase a lot of goods that were strictly for Covid operations (i.e. signs. partjtions, sarritation stations. etc.). Finally. while guests were overall very grateful to be there. lhere were some "tetnpers" related to Covid requirelnents. Our take away is that we significantly grew our guest numbers. However. that growth didn't all make it to our botionr line grven the costs. And. while we don't expect to see those same numbers this year. we do expect to get a good percentage ofthose same people back (2021) For our own planning and budgeting. we are projecting our sales in 2A21 b be about 75% of 2020. And. while we currently are falling a bit short oi that - we feel like we will be close, making out 2022 projections pretty solid, going back to 10% growth 25iiC char.r.:ter lirnii Addiiional lnformation We want to call out of the fact that our numbers (past and projected) seem a lrtfle wonky - becasue they are. After a crazy 2020, where both attendance and spending was up. we're trying to figure out where our new "norm" is once the dust settles. While Covid was the driving force behind a lot of what we saw h 2020. it was also the first yearwe irnplenrenied paid adnrission - which also brought changes. That said, forthe first time ever, we are pro.jecting lower nurnbers than the year before. For our own planning sake, we approached 2021 as being somewhere between 2019 and 2020 {up from from 2019, but not nearly at 2020 numbers). And. as of this applicaiion, we're able to get a little glirnpse of where we're at so far and it looks like this will hold true. Certify that FATCA code(s) entered on this form (if any) indicating that you are exempt from the FATCA reporting, is correct. See What is FATCA repofting, later, for further information. Note: lf you are a U.S. person and a requester gives you a form other than Form W-9 to request your TlN, you must use the requester's form if it is substantially similar to this Form W-9. Definition of a U.S. person. For federal tax purposes, you are considered a U.S. person if you are: . An individual who is a U.S. citizen or U.S. resident alien; . A partnership, corporation, company, or association created or organized in the United States or under the laws of the United States; . An estate (other than a foreign estate); or r A domestic trust (as defined in Regulations section 301.7701-7). Special rules for partnerships. Partnerships that conduct a trade or business in the United States are generally required to pay a withholding tax under section 1446 on any foreign partners' share of effectively connected taxable income from such business. Further, in cedain cases where a Form W-9 has not been received, the rules under section 1446 require a partnership to presume that a partner is a foreign person, and pay the section 1446 withholding tax. Therefore, if you are a U.S. person that is a partner in a partnership conducting a trade or business in the United States, provide Form W-9 to the partnership to establish your U.S. status and avoid section 1446 withholding on your share of partnership income. ln the cases below, the following person must give Form W-9 to the partnership for purposes of establishing its U.S. status and avoiding withholding on its allocable share of net income from the partnership conducting a irade or business in the United States. . ln the case of a disregarded entity with a U.S. owner, the U.S. owner of the disregarded entity and not the entity; . ln the case of a grantor trust with a U.S. grantor or other U.S. owner, generally, the U.S. grantor or other U.S. owner of the grantor trust and not the trust; and . ln the case of a U.S. trust (other than a grantor trust), the U.S. kust (other than a grantor trusi) and not the beneficiaries of the trust. Foreign person. lf you are a foreign person or the U.S. branch of a foreign bank that has elected io be treaied as a U.S. person, do not use Form W-9. lnstead, use the appropriate Form W-8 or Form 8233 (see Pub. 515, Withholding of Tax on Nonresident Aliens and Foreign Entities). Nonresident alien who becomes a resident alien. Generally, only a nonresident alien individual may use the terms of a tax treaty to reduce or eliminate U.S, tax on certain types of income. However, most tax treaties contain a provision known as a "saving clause.,, Exceptions specified in the saving clause may permit an exemption from tax to continue for certain types of income even after the payee has otheruise become a U.S. resident alien for tax purposes. lf you are a U.S. resident alien who is relying on an exception contained in the saving clause of a tax treaiy [o claim an eiemption from U.S. tax on certain types of income, you must attach a stitement to Form W-9 that specifies the following fiire items. .1.. The treaty country. Generally, this must be the same treaty under which you claimed exemption from tax as a nonresident alien. - 2. The treaty article addressing the income. 3. The article number (or location) in the tax treatv that contains the saving clause and its exceptions. . 4. The type and amount of income that qualifies for the exemption from tax. 5. Sufficient Jacts to justify the exemption from tax under the terms of the treaty article. Example. Article 20 of the U.S.-China income tax treaty allows an exemption from tax for scholarship income received by a Chinese student temporarily present in the United States. Under U.S. law, this student will become a resident alien for tax purposes if his or her stay in the United States exceeds 5 calendar years. However, paragraph 2 of the first Protocol to the U.S.-China treaty (dated April 30, 1984) allows the provisions of Article 20 to continue to apply even after the Chinese student becomes a resident alien of the United Siates. A Chinese student who qualifies for this exception (under paragraph 2 of the first protocol) and is relying on this exception to claim an exemption from tax on his or her scholarship or fellowship income would attach to Form W-9 a statement that includes the information described above to support that exemption. lf you are a nonresident alien or a foreign entity, give the requester the appropriate completed Form W-8 or Form 8233. Backup Withholding What is backup withholding? Persons making certain payments to you must under certain conditions withhold and pay to the IRS 24%; ol such payments. This is called "backup withholding." Payments that may be subject to backup withholding include interest, tax-exempt interest, dividends, broker and bader exchange transactions, rents, royalties, nonemployee pay, payments made in settlement of payment card and third party network transactions, and certain payments from fishing boat operators. Real estate transactions are not subject to backup withholding. You will not be subject to backup withholding on payments you receive if you give the requester your correct TlN, make the proper certifications, and report all your taxable interest and dividends on your tax return. Payments you receive will be subject to backup withholding if: 1. You do not furnish yourTlN to the requester, 2. You do not certify your TIN when required (see the instructions for Part ll for details), 3. The IRS tells the requester that you furnished an incorrect TlN, 4. The IRS tells you that you are subiect to backup withholding because you did not report all your interest and dividends on your tax return (for reportable interest and dividends only), or 5. You do not certify to the requester that you are not subjeci to backup withholding under 4 above (for reportable interest and dividend accounts opened after 1983 only). Certain payees and payments are exempt from backup withholding. See Exempt payee code, later, and the separate lnstructions for the Requester of Form W-9 for more information. Also see Special rules for partnerships, earlier. What is FATGA Reporting? The Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) requires a participating foreign financial institution to report all United States account holders that are specified United Staies persons. Certain payees are exempt from FATCA reporting. See Exernpfion from FATCA reporting code, later, and the lnstructions for the Requester of Form W-9 for more information. Updating Your lnformation You must provide updated information to any person to whom you claimed to be an exempt payee if you are no longer an exempt payee and anticipate receiving reportable payments in the future from this person. For example, you may need to provide updated information if you are a C corporation that elects to be an S corporation, or if you no longer are tax exempt- ln addition, you must furnish a new Form W-9 if the name or TIN changes for the account; for example, if the grantor of a grantor trust dies. Penalties Failure to furnish TlN, lf you fail to furnish your correct TIN to a requester, you are subject to a penalty of $50 for each such failure unless your failure is due to reasonable cause and not to willful neglect. Givil penalty for false information with respect to withholding. lf you make a false statement with no reasonable basis that results in no backup withholding, you are subject to a $500 penalty. Form W-9 (Rev. 10-2018)Page 3 Criminal penalty for falsifying information. Willfully falsifying certifications or affirmations may subiect you to criminal penalties including fines and/or imprisonment. As a result, we're including a breakdown of 20 j.9. 410 entries (guess the corn kernel contest) 27o/o stayed overnight 7000 overall guests at The Patch Based on the above, assume 27o/o stayed the night = 1890 guests stayed the night I89O/3 people = 630 families stayed the night Of those 630 families, we feel we can conservatively say 25% stayed for the patch experience, or L57 stays in all. *Ihis is the one oreo we allowed a little growth on our applicotion (175 for 2022), given that we were so conservative on our numbers Our second data collection method is a direct/informal survey that we do in person and when guests call. We spoke with 11-2 guests in 2019 and asked the following questions: Where are you visiting from? How'd you hear about us? Are you staying for the weekend and if so, where? Of those directly surveyed, 2O%were staying the night in paid accommodations and 62% overall were from outside the county. We believe this supports the findings of the larger, indirect suruey via the guessing game *lt's worth noting that the out-of-county number is high (62%), because we are specifically seeking out people who we believe are from outside the area and/or were calling for more information.
