When the Easton Memorial Day Celebration began, thirty-one years ago in 1991, the event was primarily local people having fun and gathering to hold a parade in celebration of Memorial Day. lt provided an oppodunity for community members to gather, enjoy each other and to remember those who fought for our Nation. As the event became more popular, and more volunteers came on board to plan, the event became a daylong celebration. The celebration increased from offering a parade to adding a street fair, car show. motorcycle show and KidZone. Seeing the opportuniiy to provide a unique event in a very small town, the committee began to look for more ways to market and promote the celebration. With the help of Kittitas CLTAC grant funds the commillee additional marketing options to help spread the work aboui the Memorial Day Celebration. Using paid advertising, online marketing, printed posters and flyers that were distributed widely, we saw out small local event growing into a popular event which began drawing more and more people 50 miles or farther away. ln 2019, we had our largest participation, 4,000 people! Our smalltown community event has become a small-town celebration to put on your calendar and attend. 2500 characler linlii Application Questions : P art 2 3l lmpact Response 3: Measuring Results* Dilscribe holv you w!ll promole your eventlaclivtly/facility to attracl tourists. The comnrittee works together to distribute information on the Memorial Day Celebratron. From Snoqualmie Pass to Ellensburg. print flyers and posters are placed in as many locations as we can possibly put them. We print small postcards that are distributed event to lodging locations so that their guests are given them when they check-in. lnformation on the Easton Memorial Day Celebration is posted on Discover Cle Elum, Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce, Easton School District, Easton Fire Department, and multiple Facebook pages. This has provided a tremendous amount of free promotion. We plan to cont;nue with these partnerships and look for additional ones that can help promote to a larger audience. This year through a generous donation, we will be able io update our website and make it more interaclive to visitors. For thirty-one years our event materials have been either hand made or designed by committee members using limited knowledge. This year we are updating our publicity by adding additional funds in our Memorial Day Celebration budget to receive help with our publicity and event promotion. lt is time for us to identify and adopt some new or expanded ways irr which we can promote this wonderful celebration. We recognize that in the two years since our event has occurred, there are new tips and ways to attract visitors and tourists. A lot of these changes align to online nrarketing and social media tools, such as geofencing. lnstagram, paid advertising, YouTube and increasing our co- marketing with local partners to obtain help in sharing about our event. 2500 character limit Application Questions: Part 3 4l Collaboration lf your organizaHon collaborates or has created partnerships with other organizations, groups, or other events, how is this accomplished? 4.1 Collaboration *The Easton Memorial Day Celebration Committee takes time, each year, to confirm partnerships and identify possible new ones. The committee is made up of comnrunity members and those who represent the Easton Fire Department, Easton School District, local organizations and businesses in Easton. Many of our partners provide important components of the day's celebration. As an example, the Cabin Creek Cruisers host the car show, the lron Freedom Motorcycle Club host the motorcycle show, the Snomads snowmobile club host the beer garden. Our partnership with the Easton School enables us to use their parking lot for the KidZone which is one of our most popular activities during the day of celebratrng. We will continue to add sponsors and donors to our website to help promote iheir business. Easton has several campgrounds, State, Federal and private which will also be added to our website. We are in the process of identifying B&B's, VRBO's and Airbnb's that might like to have additional exposure through our website" As we become more familiar with posting on FB and lnstagram, we will have the ability to tag and / or promote our lodging facilities. We've found that lodging facilities and our businesses like having the postcards. or small cards on our event. We will continue to use those and include a QR code that links back to our website and the lodging resources we have available. Future Plans*We continue to look for ways to help sustain our celebration. Each year we have been able to increase our sponsorship, we obtained a gambling license to sell more raffle tickets and ask for donations to support the costs of the celebration. We work hard to seek additional funding to not only suppod this important event. but to meet the rising costs associated with hosting events. For example, this year our budget includes additional cosis associaied with COVID to ensure we are offering a safe celebration. We will work hard to increase sales of our successful raffles ihat we hold and seeking sponsors and donors in support of the celebralion. We are also seeking additional funding from different sources such as the Suncadia Fund for Enhancement. Our committee works hard to identify additional ways to cover the expenses that are incurred for the Memorial Day Celebration. As we work to plan a "normal" celebration, we are keeping our minds open to the potential of needing to adapt should there be restriction due to health concerns. We've learned a lot about planning and have used some of those methods for the several other events that Easton offers. We are hopeful and excited about bringing our community and our visitors together to celebrate our Nation, each other, and ihose we lost. We combine this with an informal survey result of 10% estimated overnight stays for those facilities that did not report. This year we plan to add a QR code to our event material which will include ihe option for visitors to share where they are staying overnight, and zip code to indicaie where they are traveling from. 2500 character lintit Application Questions: Part 5 8l Funding Does your organization have. or have you applied for, grant funding from other sources? lf not, why not? lf yes, please list the funding you have for the project, including any volunteer and in-kind sources in Question 9l Project Budget Overview.
