KITTITAS COUNTY
Sheriff’s Office

AGENDA STAFF REPORT

AGENDA DATE: December 6, 2022

ACTION REQUESTED: Request to Acknowledge Intent to Lease Additional Storage Unit.

BACKGROUND: The Sheriff’s Office currently leases three storage units from Central
Storage. Two of these units are paid from the General Fund, currently
totaling $13,740.00 per year. The third unit is paid from a Homeland
Security Grant at $6,480.00 per year. The Homeland Security funded
unit is also utilized by Public Health to store emergency supplies.

The Sheriff’s Office recently received notice from Central Storage
that rates will be increased effective January 1 by a total of $2,316.00
for 2023 and an additional $2,304.00 for 2024 for the General Fund
units. The grant-funded unit will be increased by a total of $3,972.00
for 2023 and an additional $3,972.00 for 2024. The additional cost of
this storage unit is to be paid out of the General Fund until the next
grant cycle, at which time the cost increase can be budgeted in full
from grant funds.

Central Storage has had a unit directly behind the Sheriff’s Office and
adjacent to our existing rented units come available. As the Sheriff’s
Office continues to grow, additional storage space is becoming
increasingly necessary. It would be logistically advantageous for the
Sheriff’s Office to lease this additional unit to accommodate our
growth needs. Our plans for the units are to convert them into
evidence processing and storage. This will free up areas in the main
building for our training and office space needs.

It is anticipated that the unit will cost a total of $10,452.00 for 2023,
increasing to $14,424.00 for 2024.

RECOMMENDATION: Acknowledge Intent to Lease Additional Storage Unit.

HANDLING: No Handling

LEAD STAFF: Command Staff
