UPPER KITTITAS COUNTY <br />COMMUNITY RECREATION CENTER <br />Project Timeline—What we are working on now <br />Long Desired, Newly <br />Possible Community <br />Asset <br />The citizens of Upper Kittitas County have supported <br />the concept of an indoor community recreation <br />center for decades. The impact of a place to gather, <br />creating social connections for all community <br />members, is truly powerful and will provide significant <br />benefits to those who live and recreate in the <br />community. <br />Benefits <br />• Promote wellness and reduce the risk of disease <br />• Help the injured or infirm to reclaim health and mobility <br />• Provide the opportunity for children and adults to learn to swim <br />• Give students in the Cle Elum-Roslyn School District a place to <br />go, within walking distance, after school. <br />• Supplement gaps in indoor gym space for students in both <br />school districts. <br /> <br />• Provide indoor walking track, water aerobics and other <br />activities for seniors. <br />• Create new job opportunities for local youth <br />• Create a space for summer camps <br />• Connect to trails systems <br />• Promote tourism and expand economic growth. <br /> <br />Conceptual exterior design by ALSC Architects <br />Develop Partnerships <br />• Kittitas Valley Healthcare has <br />expressed interest in 7,000 square <br />feet for physical therapy in addition to <br />shared facilities <br />• Swiftwater Fitness wants to partner <br />rather than compete, significantly <br />reducing the operating shortfall <br />• Cle Elum-Roslyn School District and <br />Easton School District <br />• City of Cle Elum, City of Roslyn, City <br />of South Cle Elum, City of <br />Ellensburg, Kittitas County, Kittitas <br />County Parks and Recreation District <br />#1, State and Federal Government <br />Develop Capital and <br />Operating Funds Strategy <br />• Apply for federal, state and local <br />government funding <br />• Apply for grants from private <br />foundations <br />• Drive fundraising campaign for <br />individual and business gifts <br />• Plan and execute a bond issue and <br />operating levy <br />Define Governance <br />• Kittitas County Parks and Recreation <br />District #1 will likely need to run a <br />bond and levy <br />• City of Cle Elum owns the land and <br />will need a lease agreement with <br />building owner <br />• Define ongoing role of UKC CRCA <br />• Determine who will operate the <br />facility, considering funding sources <br />(State and Federal Government) <br />Jan-March 2024 <br />Issue bid docs and select contractor <br />April 2024 <br />Begin construction <br />2025 <br />Hire staff, open facility <br />And in the future...
