SHERIFF’S OFFICE
AGENDA STAFF REPORT
AGENDA DATE: July 5, 2022
ACTION REQUESTED: Request to Approve a Resolution awarding funding for a Grant
pursuant to the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC) by the
Washington State Department of Health, through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021,
P.L. 117-2 and under the Detection & Mitigation of COVID-19 in Confinement Facilities
project.
BACKGROUND: State funding was allocated to Kittitas County Jail for hiring an additional
nurse, as well as supplies to help with detection and mitigation of COVID-19. This will
assist in helping the facility withstand any type of exposure or outbreak. The nurse will be
focusing on testing and mitigation efforts. This will help alleviate some of the time
constraints our regular medical staff faces during their time in the facility and allowing the
inmates to receive more and better care. The funds will also go towards two additional
visitor and employee temperature check kiosks. If at some point the facility is unable to
receive free rapid tests, these funds would help purchase more tests. These funds will also
help purchase storage shelving to help improve the storage of the additional cleaning
products needed to keep the facility sanitized and clean. These funds will help also purchase
additional personal protective equipment and respirators. Cleaning supplies are needed to
help keep the facility clean and safe, so funds will also be used for purchasing additional
cleaning supplies. These funds will also be used to purchase additional UV machines.
Bringing additional units into the facility will allow our employees to be more efficient day
to day, while keeping more areas sanitized. The additional items to be purchased with these
funds will be a large TV with a secure enclosure to be placed in out receiving/releasing area
to help educate incoming inmates about ways to help detect and deter COVID-19.
The total awarded is $471,750.
INTERACTION: This interagency agreement was reviewed and approved by the Kittitas
County Prosecutor’s Office.
