Action Requested:
Approve Resolution adopting the 2022 Sheriff cost per deputy rates
Summary:
• Pursuant to Federal regulations, and as a recipient of Federal grant awards, the County must calculate
and formally adopt hourly per-deputy rates for those grants that entail Deputy services.
• The County Sheriff also provides services via contract, which are billed pursuant to these adopted rates.
• This agenda item consists of a Resolution to authorize the rates for 2022.
Background:
• Rates are calculated using cost-recognition criteria required by Federal regulations
• Costs are expressed as hourly, per-deputy, and are derived from direct- and indirect-cost (overhead)
calculations.
• The County adopts different rates for Federal and non-Federal clients. Federal rates are lower,
reflecting fewer allowed costs.
• Rates are not required to be calculated annually, but staff is attempting to establish this as a regular
annual process. Rates were updated and adopted in 2021.
• The 2022 rates reflect a 7.5% increase, driven primarily by:
o Increased costs for Kitcom services
o Increased insurance premiums
o Additional costs for body- and vehicle-cams for new deputies
o Increased fuel and vehicle maintenance costs
