WHEREAS: the National Correctional Ofhcer's Week was first proclaimed on May 5, 1985,
by President Ronald Reagan when he signed Proclamation 5l 87, to recognize the men and
women who work in jails, prisons, and community corrections across the countVi and
WHEREAS: in 7996,the U.S. Senate officially changed the name to National Correctional
Offrcers and Employees Week, recognized in the first week of May; and
WHEREAS: the Kittitas County Corrections Officers and employees are committed to
maintaining custody, security, and control in a safe, efficient, and constitutional manner in the
Kittitas County Jail facility; and
WHEREAS: these dedicated men and women put their lives on the line daily and perform very
difficult tasks that can be both physically and emotionally demanding, while requiring careful
and constant vigilance, as the threat of violence is always present; and
WHEREAS: the Corrections Officers and employees are responsible for supervising inmate
conduct and behavior to maintain security within the facility while promoting positive behavior,
attitudes, and skills within the inmate population to reduce recidivism and promote successful
reentry into the community;
NOW, THEREFORE' BE IT RESOLVED: that the Kittitas County Board of County
Commissioners proclaim May I - May 7,2022 as National Conectional Officers and Employees
week in Kittitas County, and request that the citizens of Kittitas County join them in honoring
the Kittitas County Corrections officers and employees for their invaluable contributions to
society.
