BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />COUNTY OF KITTITAS <br />STATE OF WASHINGTON <br />RESOLUTION <br />NO.: 2022-_________ <br /> <br />TO ADOPT VOTING PRECINCT BOUNDARIES WITHIN KITTITAS COUNTY <br /> <br />Whereas: Pursuant to RCW 36.32.020, the Board of County Commissioners must divide <br />their county into three commissioner districts so each district comprises as nearly <br />as possible one-third of the population of the county; and <br />Whereas: Pursuant to RCW 29A.76.010, it is the responsibility of the Board of County <br />Commissioners to periodically redistrict, based on population information from <br />the most recent federal decennial census; and <br />Whereas: The Board of County Commissioners adopted Ordinance No. 2022-002 amending <br />Kittitas County Code Chapter 1.08 to modify and update County Commissioner <br />Districts; and <br />Whereas: The adoption of Ordinance No. 2022-002 removed Voting Precincts from Kittitas <br />County Code; and <br />Whereas: Pursuant to RCW 29A.16.050, every election precinct must be wholly within a <br />single congressional district, a single legislative district, a single district of a <br />county legislative authority, an, if applicable, a city; and <br />Whereas: Pursuant to RCW 29A.16.040, election precinct sizes are limited to 1500 active <br />registered voters or less, and precinct boundaries may be altered any time as long <br />as sufficient time exists prior to a given election, and precinct boundaries may <br />also be altered when a city or town annexes unincorporated territory to the city or <br />town; and <br />Whereas: Election precinct boundaries must frequently be altered due to population growth <br />or changes with the County, or due to annexation of territory by a city or town; <br />and <br />Whereas: The County Auditor is authorized by RCW 29A.16.040(3) to temporarily adjust <br />election precinct boundaries as needed to accommodate population growth or <br />changes within precincts, or to accommodate the addition of territory to a city or <br />town, and those adjustments are then adopted by the Board of County <br />Commissioners; and
