Description *
The Ellensburg Dance Ensemble (EDE), in collaboration with Central Washington
University (CWU) Theater Arts, Music, and Orchesis Dance Company, will present a
spring dance production (to be determined) and The Nutcracker ballet in falllwinter
2022. These productions will feature local dancers ranging in age from 6 to adult.
EDE will also hire two professional ballet dancers from a regional ballet company to
play the lead roles to attracl a wider audience to our pedormances.
EDE is a not-for-profit pre-professional dance company that has been a part of the
Ellensburg community for the past 15 years and strives to bring the art of dance to
Ellensburg and the surrounding areas by performing at community events, providing
high-guality dance produciions, and offering dancers exceptional dance education
oppofiunities. ln the past, EDE's dance productions have included The Nutcracker.
Cinderella, The Wizard of Oz, The Little Mermaid. Alice in Wonderland, and more.
EDE's dance company is led by artistic directors who have many years of dance and
choreography experience from all over the United States. The talents of our leaders
create beautiful dance productions that are a joy for the audience members to watch
and for the dancers to perform.
Collaborating with CWU Theater Arls. Music, and Orchesis Dance Company on
productions is a padnership we are going to continue to build upon. To increase the
caliber and professionalism of productions, EDE brings professional dancers to play
the more challenging roles in sonre of its productions and will continue to do so.
Theses professional dancers not only provide inspiration and serve as role models
for the local dance talent, they also bring in more audience members and appeal to
a wider range of theater goers.
The target audiences for EDE productions are families with children. as well as
dance and arts enthusiasts, from all over central and eastern Washington.
EDE is the only dance company in central Washington putting on performances at a
high-caliber level, and we believe we have an opportunity to grow our
professionalism and attract audiences from across the Pacific Northwest reqion.

EDE is working to become a statewide draw for dances and audience members
alike through the prdsentation of high-quality. family-friendly, affordable productions.
in addition to premium dance instruction.
The goal with our productions is twofold
1) to provide an unparalleled opporlunity for our local dance community to perform in
live shows to large audiences
2) to bring audiences from around the region to appreciate an support the dance arts
in Ellensburg while experiencing amazing enterlainment.
Longer term goals of EDE include creating opportunities for dance competitions to
be located in Ellensburg and create an even larger audience and appreciation for
dance.
For the 2022 season. EDE will create marketing materials and a reach that we have
never attempted before. We know that we attract tourism audiences from outside the
region to attend The Nutcracker and we want to do the same for our spring shows.
EDE will work with a marketing consultant to identify audiences to larget and create
a professional image for our company. We have incredible facilities in Ellensburg
ihat can support large audiences and the partnership with CWU will allow us to
capitalize on that as well.

Describe lhe prior success of yorrr everlt/acl,vitytfacllity in altraction iouaisls.
We were unable to produce a show during 2021 due to limits on gathering and an
inability to secure venues due to covid.
We have attached numbers from CWU, who sells tickets for The Nutcracker. These
historic numbers show an audience attending from a broad spectrum of the region.
ln 2018, ofthe 500 ticket purchases who bought online (there are substantial ticket
purchases at the door who are not tracked for address), about 40% are from more
than 50 miles away.
Those number reflect a very small - to negligible - amount of advertising anywhere
outside of Ellensburg.

EDE will work the Encore Media group io publish our 2022 season and target niche
pedormance publications in the Seattle area. We will also work with the WA State
Arts Alliance and other statewide ads organizations to promote our season.
Locally, EDE will work with the Chamber of Commerce to use social media, print
media, and radio to highlight our show and profile oLrr dancers.
The draw of professional dancers will easily attract a broader audience and our past
products show that clearly.
Additionally, the collaboration agreement with CWU allows some productions to be
included in the CWU Theater Season and therefore included in all CWU mailings
and advertising. as well as the CWU website. Tickets for these shows are sold
through the CWU ticket office and plans are in the works to allow the Kittitas County
Visitor Center as a ticketing location as well.

4l Collaboration
lf your organization collaborates or has created partnerships with other organizations, groups, or other events,
how is this accomplished?
4.1 Collaboration*Key partnerships for EDE include CWU - particularly Theater Arts, Orchesis Dance
Company, and Music - and Morgan Performing Arts Center at Morgan Middle
School.
We also work closely with dancers from Central Washington Dance Academy, the
Eugene Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and other dance companies across the
region. We have brought in expert leachers to run master classes for EDE company
dancers and are looking into bringing dance competitions to Ellensburg.

On our website, we will have links to booking our partner hotels and booking lodging

and take a look around Kittitas County" message.
That message will be reiterated through social media posts. including Facebook and
lnstagram, which lead to the website lodging page and thus ticket sales.
We will seek community sponsors for productions. Attached is an example of a
previous sponsorship campaign. lf we garner local sponsors, their namesllogos are
listed on banners, tickets, programs and social media. and will be added io our
website.

5l Future Plans
Please explain what plans exist to allow this project to become self-sustaining. lnclude any plans for ticket sales,
event sponsors, and other cost-recovery models.
Future Plans *EDE strives to use tickeis sales from the previous productions along with donations
from arts patrons, sponsors, and fundraisers to fund future productions and help us
grow.
EDE engages in annual fundraising, has member dues, and looks for spo'tsors for
every production. We have a very comntitted board of dance parents and community
members who act as boosters for our company and support our dancers in every
way.
For The Nutcrackel EDE's collaboration agreement with CWU states that 30% of
the ticket sales and fee of $l.500 are paid to CWU. This pays for the use of
McConnell Hall. CWU Lighting and Stage staff, Stage Manager, House Manager and
oiher expenses.
Also. this arrangement allows the production to be included in the CWU fheater
Season and therefore included in all CWU mailings and advertising, as well as on
the CWU website. Tickets for The Nutcracker are sold through the CWU ticket office
and plans are in the works to allow the Kittitas County Visitor Center as a ticketing
location as well,
EDE works io keep ticket prices low so our community members can afford to attend
and perhaps support us with larger donaiions over time.

Nutcracker year, so we have not been able to collect daia for a Nutcracker

CWU tracks purchaser locaiion for online tickets, but not tickets at the door. We
have no control over how they track that information, but they do provide us with the
data. Previous years tracking for The Nutcracker is attached.
For EDE spring productions, we will collect data from ticket sales electronically
through an online storefront and tnvite patrons to complete an informal survey.
