Home My WebLink AboutResolution_Prospectus_Bridge Rail ImprovementsKITTITAS COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS AGENDA STAFF REPORT AGENDA DATE: February 1, 2022 ACTION REQUESTED: Request to Approve a Resolution Authorizing the Chair’s signature on the Local Agency Federal Aid Project Prospectus for Bridge Rail Improvements Phase 1, CRP 314-21 BACKGROUND: Kittitas County has been selected to receive $664,000 from the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) for Bridge Rail Improvements, Phase 1, in Kittitas County Road Maintenance Districts A-F. This project will install bridge rail, approaches, and terminals on bridges with wooden non-standard bridge rail and/or no existing bridge rail at locations. This project is the first phase to address this type of non-standard rail. HSIP funding is through the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Local Programs Office and requires approval for each phase of the project. This Project Prospectus covers the Federal Funding for the preliminary engineering phase which is estimated at $63,000.00. Public Works is preparing to begin this work with County staff upon obligation of funds. INTERACTION: Public Works RECOMMENDATION: Approve the Resolution Authorizing the Chair’s signature on the Local Agency Federal Aid Project Prospectus for the Bridge Rail Improvements Phase 1, CRP 314-21. WHEREAS: Public Works has received federal safety funding for Bridge Rail Improvements Phase 1 at various locations within Maintenance Districts A – F; and WHEREAS: The federal funding will be used for the preliminary engineering phase to design, develop and prepare construction plans and specifications for these improvements; and WHEREAS: In preparation to begin work in the Spring of 2022 Kittitas County Public Works is requesting the Washington State Department of Transportation release the federal funds for preliminary engineering; and WHEREAS: A Local Agency Federal Aid Project Prospectus must be executed by the Chair acknowledging the project has been reviewed and is consistent with the County’s comprehensive plan for community development; and NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of County Commissioners, in the best interest of the public, does hereby approve the Chair’s signature on the Local Agency Federal Aid Project Prospectus for Bridge Rail Improvements Phase 1, CRP 314-21.
