For many years Cle Elum had become a quiet, somewhat sleepy town with little variety to offer tourists. lt was known as a quick siop for coffee and a restroom, maybe a few groceries at Safeway on top of the hill. Moving traffic to the downtown was a challenge. ln the last two years Cle Elum has changed as new retail, restaurants, and our master plan which includes a facelift in the downtown have started. ln addition. with the work of the Cle Elum Downtown Association in creating new events, working collaboratively to expand events. and successfully building partnershrps to comarket Cle Elurr, there has been a shift in how tounsts see and experience our downtown community. Another successful venture that we were able to safely hold was the new Cle Elum Public Market downtown. Working with the Kittitas County Health Deparlment we were able to develop a safe layout to space vendors and a safe foot route for market visitors. For Boo-Elum, our fall signature event, was not held as a "Trunk or Treat" event like normal on First Street. We adapted and had a "Boo Cruize" where our trunk or treaters drove through neighborhoods bringing treats to them. For 2A21 . we are planning four different ways to hold this event and waiching COVID numbers to determine how it will take place. We are planning two safe events: a Scarecrow Contest and a Pumpkin Path, to offer the opportunity for families. businesses, and visitors to enjoy Halloween. We are currently in the planning phase for our annual Christmas in Cle Elum, again looking at different ways to safely offer a festive time during a peak season of tourists and retail business sales. 2500 characler lirnil Additional lnformation Working with the Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce. our association was able to receive lodging data for this past year. Based on these daia points from Star Destination Report and Kittitas County Chamber of Comrnerce, we predict 1'1 .025 people will travel to Upper County in 2022 from 50+ miles outside of the county for leisure activities. ln addition. we predict this could bring 4,320 roorn nights at the average ADR of $103.88, equaling a total impact of $448,762 to ihe upper county area. Tlre demand of hotel rootn nights sold in 2A20 in the county was 41,851 for leisure travel that includes evenls, Upper County prope(ies selling 17,282 hotel room nights. 25% of that number, (the average percent of 50 miles or further traveling for events) = 4,320 room nighis. These visitors' activities may include festivals and events, retail shopping, dining, outdoor recreation, and overnight stays. 2500 chari.cter lirril SUppOfting DOCUmentS You qlay upload any supporting docunrents such as lllaphs inages. diagran]s. marketrg malerials. elc. We use multiple methods of calculating participants and where they are traveling from. These methods include zip code tracking. direct counts. and informal surveys. This past year we added a zip code tool to our event cards which has allowed us to track a percentage of travelers attending events and activities. This meihod has allowed us to validate that our events are attracting visitors from greater ihan 50 miles in distance. We have also been able to validate that tourists from outside of the State of Washington and even the United Siates are stopping and exploring Cle Elum. Our direct count methods include conducting walking counts throughout our events. This is occurring at leasi every half hour out at locations where events are being held. We also ask retail partners to help keep track by counting shoppers in their businesses. Additionally, we measure our results through Google analytics, registration forms. and social media reports on ads placed and engagements. We will also be adding data from our new website which will feature as our hub for communication. Stafiing in 2022, we will be adding an inforrnal survey to our marketing materials, asking participants whether they are lodging overnight during their experience at our events. At this time. it is hard to collect data directly from our hotels, this process will allow for a sanrpling of findings in relation to lodging. 2500 character lirtit 8l Funding Does your organization have. or have you applied for, grant fundrng from other sources? lf not, why not? lf yes, please list the funding you have for the project, including any volunteer and in-kind sources in Question 9l Project Budget Overview.
