AGENDA DATE: January 18, 2022
ACTION REQUESTED: Request to Approve a Resolution to establish
County Road Project (CRP) number supporting
Intersection Safety Improvements at various
locations including Kittitas and Vantage Highways
BACKGROUND: Kittitas County has been selected to receive
$416,000 from the Highway Safety Improvement
Program (HSIP) for intersection safety
improvements at various locations, including along
Kittitas and Vantage Highways.
INTERACTION:
This project will install solar powered LED
embedded signs to enhance driver awareness of
intersections and promote safety. Example of signs
to be included are "Stop" and "Stop Ahead" signs.
Intersections have been selected based on criteria
including traffic volume and crash history. HSIP
funding is through the Washington State
Department of Transportation (WSDOT). The
award does not require matching local funds if the
project is obligated by September of 2022. By
beginning now, we anticipate being able to meet the
requirements for obligating federal funds.

Safety Improvements.

IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the Intersection Corridor Safety Improvements
The project will install solar powered LED embedded signs including "Stop Ahead", "Stop", "School Zone", "Cross Traffic
Does Not Stop" and "Intersection Ahead" including new breakaway posts at multiple intersections along Vantage Highway
and Kittitas Highway. Installation will be done at intersections identified by traffic data and crash history.

This project is hereby declared to be a public necessity and the County Engineer is hereby ordered and authorized to report and
proceed thereon as by law provided. (RCW 36.75.050, 36.80.030, 36.80.070).
IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED that an appropriation from the officially adopted road fund budget and based on the County
Engineers estimate, is hereby made in the amounts and for the purposes shown:
