ACTION REQUESTED: REQUEST TO SET PUBLIC HEARING TO CONSIDER
NEW AGRICULTURAL LEASES FOR BOWERS FIELD AIRPORT.
BACKGROUND: Bowers Field Airport has, for the past 30+ years, leased
unused lands surrounding the Airport for Agricultural use.
There are currently seven (7) tracts, approximately 800
acres of agricultural airport property under lease. The
current lease terms are ending November 30, 2021. Tract
seven will no longer be leased due to wetland mitigation.
The Airport recently placed Tracts 1 through 6 out for bid
and have received several qualified bids and wishes to enter
into a lease with the winning bidders.
DISCUSSION: The current agricultural leases, which end on 11/30/2021,
were awarded at an average of $48 per acre. The new leases
will be awarded at average of $52 per acre and will be for a
term lasting five (5) years.
INTERACTION: BoCC, Prosecutors Office.
RECOMMENDATION: Set public hearing concerning Agricultural Leases for
November 2nd, at 2pm.
HANDLING: Return one original to the Airport.
