PROCLAMATION
..CONSTITUTION DAY AND CITIZENSHIP DAYO'
September 17,2021
WHEREAS the Constitution of the United States of America, which guarantees priceless freedoms to us as citizens of
the United States and to our posterity and sets forth a concept of liberty that has been an inspiration to freedom-loving
people everywhere, takes on still deeper meaning in these days of civil unrest; and
WHEREASby joint resolution approved December 8,2004 (36 U.S.C. 106), the Congress of the United States has
designated the seventeenth day of September of each year as Constitution Day and Citizenship Day in commemoration
of the signing on September 77,1787, of the Constitution of the United States and in recognition of all who, by coming
of age or by naturalization, enjoy the privileges and assume the responsibilities of citizenship; and
WHEREAS the aforesaid resolution urges the civil and educational authorities of States, counties, cities, and towns to
make plans for the proper observance of Constitution Day and Citizenship Day and for the complete instruction of
citizens in their responsibilities and opportunities as citizens of the United States and of the State and locality in which
they reside.
WHEREAS every year, thousands of candidates for citizenship commemorate Constitution Day and Citizenship Day
by becoming American citizens. These men and women have respected our laws and learned our history, some have
served in our military.
WHEREAS we encourage anyone to fulfillthe dream of becoming acitizen of the United States of America, and we
welcome all who naturalize into our community to join us in writing the next great chapter of the American story, and
WHEREAS we remember the oath taken by all applicants who wish to become citizens: "l do solemnly swear that I
will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; and that I will
well and faithfully discharge my duties and responsibilities as a citizen of the United States."
WHEREAS a celebration of Constitution Day and Citizenship Day is planned and scheduled to be held at Rotary Park
on September 17,2021, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and all residents and visitors in Kittitas County are invited to attend, and
NOW' THEREFORE, the Kittitas County Board of Commissioners proclaims September 77,2021, as Constitution
Day and Citizenship Day in Kittitas County and encourages all residents of Kittitas County to join us in attendingthe
Constitution Day and Citizenship Day celebration at Rotary Park to reaffirm our commitment to a strong adherence to
the foundational principles put forth in our Constitutions and laws for naturalization citizenship.
