KITTITAS COUNTY <br />DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS <br />AGENDA STAFF REPORT <br />AGENDA DATE: July 6, 2021 <br />ACTION REQUESTED: Request to set a Public Hearing for August 17, 2021 at 2:00 <br />pm to consider amendments to Kittitas County Code <br />Chapter 14.08. <br />BACKGROUND: The National Flood Insurance Program benefits County <br />residents by enabling residents with homes at flood risk to <br />receive a federally backed mortgage and receive disaster <br />assistance. Program participation also makes federal flood <br />insurance available in our community. To participate in this <br />program, Kittitas County must have a floodplain <br />management ordinance that meets minimum federal and <br />state criteria and must adopt and utilize floodplain hazard <br />maps provided by FEMA. <br />Staff from FEMA, the Department of Ecology, and the <br />Community Rating System have reviewed our ordinance <br />and provided required and suggested code revisions. <br />Proposed code revisions were presented at the July 27, <br />2020 and June 28, 2021 Public Works Study Sessions. <br />To remain in the National Flood Insurance Program, <br />Kittitas County must update Kittitas County Code Chapter <br />14.08 by September 24, 2021, so that it meets minimum <br />federal and state standards and must adopt floodplain <br />hazard maps provided by FEMA. <br />INTERACTION: Public Works. <br />RECOMMENDATION: Set a Public Hearing for August 17, 2021 at 2:00 PM to <br />consider Amendments to Kittitas County Code Chapter <br />14.08. <br />HANDLING: Return one original to Public Works. <br />ATTACHMENTS: Notice of Public Hearing. <br />LEAD STAFF: Arden Thomas <br />Public Works Water Resource Manager <br />
