ACTION REQUESTED: Request to set a Public Hearing for August 17, 2021 at 2:00
pm to consider amendments to Kittitas County Code
Chapter 14.08.
BACKGROUND: The National Flood Insurance Program benefits County
residents by enabling residents with homes at flood risk to
receive a federally backed mortgage and receive disaster
assistance. Program participation also makes federal flood
insurance available in our community. To participate in this
program, Kittitas County must have a floodplain
management ordinance that meets minimum federal and
state criteria and must adopt and utilize floodplain hazard
maps provided by FEMA.
Staff from FEMA, the Department of Ecology, and the
Community Rating System have reviewed our ordinance
and provided required and suggested code revisions.
Proposed code revisions were presented at the July 27,
2020 and June 28, 2021 Public Works Study Sessions.
To remain in the National Flood Insurance Program,
Kittitas County must update Kittitas County Code Chapter
14.08 by September 24, 2021, so that it meets minimum
federal and state standards and must adopt floodplain
hazard maps provided by FEMA.
INTERACTION: Public Works.
RECOMMENDATION: Set a Public Hearing for August 17, 2021 at 2:00 PM to
consider Amendments to Kittitas County Code Chapter
14.08.
HANDLING: Return one original to Public Works.

Kittitas County, Ellensburg WA
The Board of Kittitas County Commissioners will meet at 2:00 pm on August 17, 2021 at the Commissioners' Auditorium,
205 West 5th Avenue, Room 109, Kittitas County Courthouse, Ellensburg, WA to consider proposed changes to Kittitas
County Code Chapter 14.08 Flood Damage Prevention. The proposed amendments will adopt an updated Flood Insurance
Study for Kittitas County, Washington and accompanying Flood Insurance Rate Maps, ensuring the ordinance meets Federal
and State requirements for administration of the National Flood Insurance Program. A copy of the proposed code revisions
may be viewed at Kittitas County Public Works at 411 North Ruby St, Suite 1 Ellensburg, WA 98926 during normal
working hours (8 AM to 5 PM local time).
