COMMISSIONERS' MINUTES KITTITAS COUNTY, WASHINGTON WEBEX SPECIAL MEETING
FRIDAY 4:00 P.M. MAY 7, 2021
Board members present via Webex: Chairman Brett Wachsmith, Vice-
Chairman Laura Osiadacz, and Commissioner Cory Wright.
Others via Webex: Taylor Crouch, Administrative Assistant; Judy
Pless, Budget and Finance Manager; and Nick Henderson, Coroner. SPECIAL MEETING REGIONAL MORGUE COMMISSIONERS
At 4:09 p.m. Chairman Wachsmith opened a special meeting to discuss
a regional morgue with the Coroner’s Office.
Nick Henderson, Coroner explained that there was talk among
Washington Coroners about the need for a regional morgue. The idea
of Ellensburg being centrally located with an airport and college
made it an optimal location. There is a parcel of land out by the
Airport that is seen as optimal ground. Mr. Henderson asked the
Board for a budget amendment to start the permitting process for
this land.
The Board asked for more preliminary planning to be completed first
and offered to help Mr. Henderson along the process. There may be
grants available for this project. It may qualify under COVID-19
grants because there would be a deep freeze freezer in the morgue
and that is what is used for bodies with communicable diseases.
