Child Abuse Prevention Month
April 2021
WHEREAS, child abuse and neglect are a serious problem affecting every segment of our community, and finding
solutions requires input and action from everyone; and
WHEREAS, our children are our most valuable resources and will shape the future of the community in which we
live; and
WHEREAS' child abuse can have long-term psychological, emotional, and physical effects that have lasting
consequences for victims of abuse; and
WHEREAS, protective factors are conditions that reduce or eliminate risk and promote the social, emotional, and
developmental well-being of children; and
WHEREAS, effective child abuse prevention activities succeed because of the partnerships created between child
welfare professionals, education, health, community- and faith-based organizations, businesses, law enforcement
agencies, and families; and
WHEREAS, communities must make every effort to promote programs and activities that create strong and
thriving children and families; and
WHEREAS, we acknowledge that we must work together as a community to increase awareness about child abuse
and contribute to promote the social and emotional well-being of children and families in a safe, stable, and
nurturing environment; and
WHEREAS, prevention remains the best defense for our children and families
THEREFORE, the Kittitas County Board of Commissioners proclaim April2021 as Child Abuse Prevention
Month and call upon all citizens, community agencies, faith groups, medical facilities, elected leaders, and
businesses in the Kittitas County to recognize this month by dedicating ourselves to support families, thereby
preventing child abuse and strengthening the communities in which we live.

Dear Board of County Commissioners
National Child Abuse Prevention Month recognizes the importance of communities working
together to help families thrive and prevent child maltreatment. During the month of April and
throughout the year, communities are encouraged to increase awareness about child and family
well-being and work together to implement effective strategies that support families and prevent
child abuse and neglect.
I am writing to you to request that the County of Kittitas proclaim the month of April 2O21as Child
Abuse Prevention Month.
For your convenience, I am attaching a proclamation that may be used. lf possible, it would be
appreciated if this matter could be on the agenda for March L6th or as soon thereafter as possible.
Court Advocates for Children for Kittitas County is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Court
Advocates for Children is a child advocacy program currently serving L09 abused, neglected, and/ or
abandoned children ages birth to eighteen years in Kittitas County. We provide trained independent
volunteers who promote and advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in
the justice system of Kittitas County. We envision a communitythat is aware of and committed to
the efforts of Court Advocates to secure a safe, permanent, and loving home for abused and

I am following up with you regarding our request for Kittitas County to proclaim April as Child Abuse Prevention
month.
Also, we are requesting to place yard-type signs on the east side of the courthouse and the south side of the
courthouse. These signs will have the CASA logo on them, in hopes of bringing more awareness to our local
community. My understanding is we need your approvalto place these signs. I look forward to hearing from you
