We opened our gates in 2012 and have grorrvn each year. We're a mulli-faceted farm offering guests the following activities: Pick pumpkins straighi from the patch Flayrides Petting zoo Kid's play zone Corn maze Trike course Pumpkin patch pool (human billiards) Pumpkin chucking Farm fresh concessions Bake shop Farm store We had considerable growth in vdrat we offer as part of the guest experience in 2020. We added a BIGGER better play structure, built "slide mountain" (with a 16 foot tunnel), Talladega irikes, pumpkin patch pool and our Bake Shop and Breran. ln an effort to streamline pricing and control capacity for 2A2O, u,e also introduced flat rate admission based pricing. This will equate to an easier buying eperience for the guest, additional revenue for us and higher admission tax revenue for the county. At The Patch, we believe it's not just about the pumpkin, but ihe e4cerience. So, our focus is creaiing a place for families to come and creaie memories. As of 2020, \$e are the only rrrnrking farm in the county, offering a full agritourism eperience. We also offer fun and educational field trips and private rentals. And, r,r,re hope to grow in 2021 with extended dayslhours and offerings, including Airbnb farmstays. 2500 character linit 2l Supporting Kittitas County as a tourism destination 1. Auay from their place of residence or business and staying overnight in paid accommodations; 2. f o a place fifty miles or more a\,1€y from their place of residence or business for the day or staying overnight; 3. or from another country or stale outside ofiheir place of residence or business. You must provide the evidence utilized in determining your projections. Response 2.1 *\Atrly would tour'sts lravelio l{ttitas Oounty to atlend your evenVactivity/facility? First, tva believe that our location is appealing to tourists. While fall r,r,eather on the westside usually brings rain and muddy corn mazes, \4/e typically continue to have sunny, blue sky days at the patch. And, irrihen talking with guests, this is often a factor in deciding to make the trek over the pass. Second, we are the only wrrking family farm in the county that offers a full, hands- on fall eperience. While there are oiher "pumpkin patches" in the county, we are the only working farm, which simply brings with it a very different experience. The fastest growing segment within the tourism industry is lhe experiential segment. Americans are further removed from farming than ever before, with most families being removed by five generations or more. The faster the rat race in the urban areas becomes, ihe nrore appealing a visit dowl on the farm becomes. Third, tare don't have the cror, lds. We are members of both a PNW agritourism group, as well as a national group. And, the numbers these farms e4cerience are staggering. Farms on the rrestside can easily see 50,000+ people in Oclober. This leads to parking issues, long lines, rmii times, limited food options, restricted activity access and more. Many of our guests tell us they come over for the day, or the rreekend simply to avoid the cro\,lds. Fourth, lr,e're not just pumpkins, \i€'re e)eeriences. We create a vrrell-rounded e4rerience that gives people a reason to get in lheir cars and come. We offer pumpkins straight off the vine, safe play spaces, creative activities, farm fresh food, shopping and more. Finally, it's a thing! Hallou, een is the second largest grossing holiday behind Christmas. And, pumpkin patches have their orarr "cult following" of sorts. People will travel near-and-far for a newand genuine patch experience. And, just like you have people wlro have lo cut their orrra-r Christnras tree each year...or people wtro raould absolulely die if they had to have an ariificial tree, you have folks wtro have to go straight to the patchl 2500 character linit Response 2.2 * Application Questions: ParI 2 lbscribe the prior success of your eventlactivily/facility i'] attiaclion tourisls. the 2021 season will be our 9th season. We have grovrar from a one-day festival held in our front yard, to a full fall e4cerience on our 36-acre farm. Our first year, t&a sawB00 guests. l\owin our 8th year, we are expecting to see 10,000. And, \n€'ve grom these numbers largely by attracting tourists. While our offering the first fewyears were small, so were our tourist numbers, starting at just 19%. However, as r,ve have growr the overall guesl e4rerience, we have grown our tourist numbers to 38%. This has been determined through both on-site guest intervie\ is as well as surveys, which will be eplained in detail later in the application. Year-over-year rrre also see a lot of repeat guests. Given the "tradition" nature of this event, people come back time and time again as a matter of tradition. We've also noticed that there are a lot of fami|es using us as a "meet in the middle" eperience for fanrilies who are on both sides of the state. Finally, ue believe that given our current state of affairs in 2A2O, ra,e will see a lot of new out of county folks this year. Whether folks are coming from counties operating in just Phase 1 or 2, they uent to escape the bigger crorrds, or their events have been cancelled - we think ine'll see a considerable uptick. And, that said, rre think u/e'll be able to retain a portion of those guests. 2500 clraracter limt 3llmpact Response 3: Measuring Results* Describe how yru will prcnrfe your evenuactivi$acjlity io attract loLirists. First, u,e go to rnhere the tourists already are. For example, i,ve buy ad space in the upper county visitor's guide each year and participate in the Pioneer Days parade and ancillary events. Here in Ellensburg, ra,e participate in the Labor Day parade. We feel this helps build brarrd aurareness ltith tourists who are already in the county. Second, we have a very robusl and targeted online ad campaign via Facebook, lnstagram and Pinterest. We target specific demographics in zip codes from the Seattle, Bellevue, lssaquah, Snoqualmie Valley, Moses Lake, Yakima and Wenatchee areas. Third, when funds have permitted we have run targeted TV commercials via Hulu, in the same targeted lp codes listed above. Fourth, vre utilize radio in the greater Douglas. Chelan and Grant county areas. Finally, we use any and all free resources ihat are available and make sense. This year that included 29 online community calendars and local online boards in other counties. 2500 charactel lin'rl Application Questions: Part 3 4lCollaboration lf your organization collaborates or has created partnerships with other organizations, groups, or other events, how is this accomplished? 4.1 Collaboration *We have ali, taays had great wrrking relationships throughout the county. And, this is evident in speaking with our guests, especially those from the westside. We often hear about folks stopping at Ou€n's or the Cle Elunr Bakery, etc. ou the way hereAthen heading home. As for our staff, we're alvwys prepared to offer our suggestions on guest inquiries (i.e. 509 Bake House for peanut butter cookies, Easton Bakery for a cinnamon roll the size of your head, Pioneer Cotfee for caffeine and snacks before getting on the road, etc.) Then, il's a matter of qualifying people as to wtrat they're looking for. We always steer people to Winegars for ice cream for the kids, lhe Roadhouse for a great family friendly dinner, C5 for GREAT food and dietary concerns, etc. Second, \,\e are excited to say thal ue have introduced a new contest at The Patch the "Chuck Challenge"l Our pumpkin chucking is a popular activity for the young and young at heart. The course includes large targets (i.e. different sized tire), as well as a target board with all different sized holes to aim for. The smallest hole is being promoted as the "Chuck Challenge". lf a guest makes it through the hole, they will win a prize. Prizes will consist of gift certificates to businesses in both the lora,er and upper counties- We'll feature one business per week, so that any and all winners that week ruruld receive a gift certificate to the same business. We will also feature that business in our social media promotions. Finally, vre will promote the winners and their prizes (i.e. the local businesses). ln an effort to support other small businesses and help those affected by Covid, u,e will be purchasing all of our prizes. Finally. in 20"1 9 we began parinering with local businesses to build an "Acme lnc. Day", structured to fit wlrat they urant to be a part of. For e>rample, rrye hosted "Evergreen Home Loans Kid's Day" in 2A19. They paid for all kid's admission to the kid's zone that day, making it free to visitors. They also sponsored all hot chocolate and apple cider drinks for kids and adults alike. ln return, they received great social media eposure, including paid boosls provided by us. They u,ere also onsite with banners, signage and small givear, vays. Unfortunately, 2O20 has pushed the "pause" br-rtton on these partnerships this year. Hou,ever, we plan to growthem in 20211 2500 clraracter lin:t 4.3 Host Hotel*ls there a host hote' for your evenl or grant project? lf yes. list the hotel. trNo f Yes. 5l Future Plans Please explain what plans exist to allow this project to become self-sustaining. lnclude any plansfor ticket sales, event sponsors, and other cost-recovery models. Future Plans*We will be growing both the overall farm and our fall season festivities. As to the farm, we hope to epand our season, to include July and August, offering farm fresh prodr, rce and limited activities. While this is not part of the funding request, \ /e feel that ihe more eposure/guest lraffic the farm has, the better it is for our fall event. To our fall event itself, ue took a big step this year (2020), introducing paid admission. We hope that this will generale a more consistent source of revenue. Going forward, we will continue to use paid admission and look at adding a pre- purchase option, allowing us to plan and execute more efficiently. 2500 character lirirt Application Questions: Part 4 6l Additional lnformation Provide any additional information which will assist the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee in evaluating your project and its benefit to tourism. 2020 lnformation ll you had a $anned evenl in 2020, whetller it was able to take place or nol, please describe any sticcesses and challenges you experierrced. We are just days auny from opening weekend and u€ feel like this year will be a "tipping point" of sorts. We rivere able to make several additions to our activitjes lineup, \n€ epanded our food and beverage offerings and ue streamlined pricing by rolling out pay one price admission. All of this leads to creating more reasons, for more people to visit. And, as mentioned previously, we believe that Covid will end up benefiting us in the long run, as people will be coming from out of the area. Fanrilies are also anxious to get out and have a slice of normalcy! And, for this reason, vre added Hump Days this year (2020). We've opened on Wednesdays to allowthe over-zoomed kids and their thinly stretch parents a nrid-ueek break. Note: lf you are a U.S. person and a requester gives you a form other than Form W-9 to request your TlN, you must use the requester's form if it is substantially similar to this Form W-9. Definition ol a U.S. person. For federal tax purposes, you are considered a U.S. person if you are: . An individual who is a U.S. citizen or U.S. resident alien; . A partnership, corporation, company, or association created or organized in the United States or under the laws of the United States; . An estate (other than a foreign estate); or . A domestic trust (as defined in Regulations section 301 .7701-7). Special rules for partnerships. Partnerships that conduct a trade or business in the United States are generally required to pay a withholding tax under section 1 446 on any foreign partners' share of effectively connected taxable income from such business. Further, in certain cases where a Form W-9 has not been received, the rules under section 1446 require a partnership to presume that a partner is a foreign person, and pay the section 1446 withholding tax. Therefore, if you are a U.S. person that is a partner in a partnership conducting a trade or business in the United States, provide Form W-9 to the partnership to establish your U.S. status and avoid section 1446 withholding on your share of partnership income. ln the cases below, the following person must give Form W-9 to the partnership for purposes of establishing its U.S. status and avoiding withholding on its allocable share of net income from the partnership conducting a trade or business in the United States. . ln the case of a disregarded entity with a U.S. owner, the U.S. owner of the disregarded entity and not the entity; r ln the case of a grantor trust with a U.S. grantor or other U.S. owner, generally, the U.S. grantor or other U.S. owner of the grantor trust and not the trust; and . ln the case of a U.S. trust (other than a grantor trust), the U.S. trust (other than a grantor trust) and not the beneficiaries of the trust. Foreign person. lf you are a foreign person or the U.S. branch of a foreign bank that has elected to be treated as a U.S. person, do not use Form W-9. lnstead, use the appropriate Form W-B or Form 8233 (see Pub. 51 5, Withholding of Tax on Nonresident Aliens and Foreign Entities). Nonresident alien who becomes a resident alien. Generally, only a nonresident alien individual may use the terms of a tax treaty to reduce or eliminate U,S. tax on certain types of income. However, most tax treaties contain a provision known as a "saving clause." Exceptions specified in the saving clause may permit an exemption from tax to continue for certain types of income even after the payee has otherwise become a U.S. resident alien for tax purposes. lf you are a U.S. resident alien who is relying on an exception contained in the saving clause of a tax treaty to claim an exemption from U.S. tax on certain types of income, you must attach a statement to Form W-9 that specifies the following five items. 1. The treaty country. Generally, this must be the same treaty under which you claimed exemption from tax as a nonresident alien. 2. The treaty article addressing the income. 3. The article number (or location) in the tax treaty that contains the saving clause and its exceptions. 4. The type and amount of income that qualifies for the exemption from tax. 5. Sufficient facts to iustify the exemption from tax under the terms of the treaty article. Example. Article 20 of the U.S.-China income tax treaty allows an exemption from tax for scholarship income received by a Chinese student temporarily present in the United States. Under U.S. law, this student will become a resident alien for tax purposes if his or her stay in the United States exceeds 5 calendar years. However, paragraph 2 of the first Protocol to the U.S.-China treaty (dated April 30, 1984) allows the provisions of Article 20 to continue to apply even after the Chinese student becomes a resident alien of the United States. A Chinese student who qualifies for this exception (under paragraph 2 of the first protocol) and is relying on this exception to claim an exemption from tax on his or her scholarship or fellowship income would attach to Form W-9 a statement that includes the information described above to support that exemption. lf you are a nonresident alien or a foreign entity, give the requester the appropriate completed Form W-8 or Form 8233. Backup Withholding What is backup withholding? Persons making certain payments to you must under certain conditions withhold and pay to the IRS 24% of such payments. This is called "backup withholding." Payments that may be subject to backup withholding include interest, tax-exempt interest, dividends, broker and barter exchange transactions, rents, royalties, nonemployee pay, payments made in settlement of payment card and third party network transactions, and certain payments from fishing boat operators. Real estate transactions are not subject to backup withholding. You will not be subiect to backup withholding on payments you receive if you give the requester your correct TlN, make the proper certifications, and report all your taxable interest and dividends on your tax return. Payments you receive will be subject to backup withholding if: 1. You do not furnish your TIN to the requester, 2. You do not certify your TIN when required (see the instructions for Part ll for details), 3. The IRS tells the requester that you furnished an incorrect TlN, 4. The IRS tells you that you are subject to backup withholding because you did not report all your interest and dividends on your tax return (for reportable interest and dividends only), or 5. You do not certify to the requester that you are not subject to backup withholding under 4 above (for reportable interest and dividend accounts opened after 1983 only). Certain payees and payments are exempt from backup withholding. See Exempt payee code, laler, and the separate lnstructions for the Requester of Form W-9 for more information. Also see Special rules for parlnerships, earlier. What is FATGA Reporting? The Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) requires a participating foreign financial institution to report all United States account holders that are specified United States persons. Certain payees are exempt from FATCA reporting. See Exemption from FATCA reporting code, later, and the lnstructions for the Requester of Form W-9 for more information. Updating Your lnformation You must provide updated information to any person to whom you claimed to be an exempt payee if you are no longer an exempt payee and anticipate receiving reportable payments in the future from this person. For example, you may need to provide updated information if you are a C corporation that elects to be an S corporation, or if you no longer are tax exempt. ln addition, you must furnish a new Form W-9 if the name or TIN changes for the account; for example, if the grantor of a grantor trust dies. Penalties Failure to furnish TlN. lf you fail to furnish your correct TIN to a requester, you are subject to a penalty of $50 for each such failure unless your failure is due to reasonable cause and not to willful neglect. Civil penalty for lalse information with respect to withholding. lf you make a false statement with no reasonable basis that results in no backup withholding, you are subject to a $500 penalty. Form W-9 (Rev. 10-2018)eage 3 Criminal penalty for falsifying information. Willfully falsifying certifications or affirmations may subject you to criminal penalties including fines and/or imprisonment. Misuse of TlNs. lf the requester discloses or uses TlNs in violation of federal law, the requester may be subject to civil and criminal penalties.
