Response 1: ProjecVEvent Description * Our busitress development goals for 2A21 are to regain the nromentum r.rrc lost ir-r 2020 due to Covid. Our assumption is that activilies can return to normal in 2021 and that any falloLrt lrom 2A20 will be offset by pent-up demand, so our overall goals remain largely the sanle as last year's application: (1) Mainiain and grow our large annual events for hunter/jumper, eventing, reining, reined cowhorse and rodeo disciplines. (2) Promote our new covered arena that will open in 2021 and attract additional groups, disciplines and activities that require such a facility. (3) Coniinue to attract a wide variety of other English and western horse events and non-equine activities to maximize use of the facilities. We plan to develop and implement a very ambitious, nrulti-faceted marketing plan in 2021 lo achieve these goals: 1. Develop and distribule up-to-date advertisements, promotional materrals and progress reports, including drone footage of the covered arena. 2. Continue to significantly upgrade our newdigital processing capabilities r,rfrich have been every well-received by our user community in 2020. We need to e4plore or develop more flexible solutions to serve the needs of event organizers and recreational rides, as well as support nunagement reporting. This initiative includes integration with handheld devices and introduction of digital mapping capabilities. 3. Develop and implement flexble temporary signage to improve raay-finding and use ol facilities with the new covered arena and to facilitate emergency response. 4. Create an outreach program with local businesses and organizations that will increase visitor traffic to them and promote new horse and non-equine uses of the covered arena. 2500 character lirrit List of lntended Use of Funds * $5,000 Covered arena marketing ads, flyers, video and other materials $5,000 Program or purchase software for online processing, mapping and reporting $3,500 Temporary signage that helps visitors navigate and make efficient use of changing Park facili $1,500 Outreach business development program with local business and organizations 2l Supporting Kittitas County as a tourism destination '1 . Response 2.1 * Response 2.2 * Applicaiion Questions: Part 2 l^rtry woulci tourists lravd io Kitiitas Corinly io aitend your evenvactivitylfacility? The Horse Park is currently rated the best in the state for hosting large horse events as indicated in survey responses from show organizers. We've achieved this level due to the quality of our facilities and knorrr/edgeable customer service. Without a covered arena \r€ have only been able to host mediurn-large events from May-September or just 40% of the year. The covered arena will provide a venue for year-round activities that currently doesn't exist in upper Kittitas county. ln addition, our largest shorm vr,ant lo grow but are unable to until we add more competiton space, wtrich the covered arena also addresses. Finally, tre're excited by the possibilities for hosting non-equine activities such as food or brew fesis. concerts. epos and shor,r,s of various types and even a winter sports staging area. 250C character lin'it &scribe the prior success of your evenyactivilylfacility in attraction lourists. Our target market includes Washington, Oregon, ldaho, Montana, California, and British Columbia and is comprised of very diverse english and ra,estern horse related interests and disciplines. A major goal for the Park is to book large shor, rrs of 150+ horses that run 2-4+ days thereby causing more visitors to stay overnight.Overnight stays increase Park revenues fronr stall fees, RV camper hook-ups, arena fees and other use charges. Having people stay overnight also increases opportunities for visitors to patronize local businesses. We have been able to build and maintain participation in our larger, multi-day events that have significant influence on the number of total visitor days the Park generates. A portion of the nrediunr and smaller size events change each year as organizers seek a new experience or need to rotate to other geographic areas to serve their constituents. For that reason, we believe the best measure for evaluating the Park's success in contribuling to economic inrpact is by looking at the overall totals of all activities for the season. We obtained residence informaiion from4,052 visitors in2019, who came from throughout Washington, 13 other states, Canada and a fewforeign countries. The overall number of visitor days has been fairly constant over the past fewyears because we have just four outdoor arenas to rent. We critically need a fifth arena and a covered competition space in order to growthe size, diversity and length of season ue can host events. Thankfully, the newcovered arena will address these limitations starting in 2021 extending our season from 23 to 33 weekends and adding more competition space. A covered arena will also attract local riders at all times of the year and especially off season. The attached Economics Metrics Table reflects total visitors for the past five years and in 2019. This table tracks growth in total visitor trafiic and annual economic berrefits. With the openirrg of lhe covered arena we elpect the grorrvth trend to pickup starting in 2A21 by about 10%, but it will take several years to realize its full potential in attracting visitors and driving economic benefits.. 2500 character lin"it 3llmpact Response 3: Measuring Results* Application Questions: Part 3 lk;cribe how you will prorcle your evenvactivily/facility to attract tourists. We have found that "seeing is believing" when it come to promoting the Park. At last we have a structure to photograph and advertise. lt is impressive in size and design and is the largest covered riding arena in WA and perhaps the northvr, est. There are many features about it that make it flexible for many needs and uses, and it will be relatively easy to create strong mental images of howdifferent events can be held there. We will highlight all these features in pictures, ads, flyers, posters, videos, and other media to create even more buzzthan is already happening. OLrr target market for these materials will be horse publications, horse show organizers, conrpeting riders in various disciplines and event planners. 2500 character lirril 4lCollaboration lf your organization collaborates or has created partnerships with other organizations, groups, or other events, how is this accomplished? 4.1 Collaboration *ln 2021 we will underlake a much more active outreach to local businesses, schools, community organizations, therapeutic riding groLrps and economic development directors to develop interest in visiting and r-tsing the Park. ln addition we will continue to do the following: We will distribute information about the local community and activities at tlre two major visitor traffic points at the Park: our visitors' registration booth and the show office wtrere event participants regisier. ln addiiion to the materials listed, we also provide Suncadia's activity calendar, Cle Elum dou, ntor,rn nrap, flyers and other information provided to us about local events and activities such as the Swiftr, rater Cellars' concert series, the barn quilts tour, etc. The Park has a presence at the annual Suncadia Neighborhood Picnic and their Harvest Fesiival. We utilize the Chamber's channels to promote the Park and our calendar of events such as on its u€bsite and weekly emails to members, have Park materials at the visitors cenier and place ads in their publications. The Park's Executive Director participates on the Dourntorm Association economic development committee to generate opportunities in upper county. Hou,ever, lve currently don't have enough staff to take an active role in many of the community events. As situations arise the Executive Director and others from Park management attend and participate in meetings with Cle Elum City Council and siaff, Suncadia senior management. Cle Elum Tourism Committee, Kittitas County Parks and Recreation. Cle Elum Dovrnior, rnr Association, Cle Elum Rotary Club, and Roselyn Rlders. Already there are a lot of inquiries about the arena, but organizers of large shora,s will uait to inspect the new facility before they will commit to holding a show there. We e)pect that in five years the calendar and revenue generating impacts of the covered arena will be largely realized, especially if lue are able to add more stabling and parking to accommodate the epected demand. Some future events will allow ticket sales, parking fees and park concessions. We have an annual business sponsorship campaign and orrgoing donor solicitation. The Park will hold its fourth nrajor auction dinner gala on November 9th at Sahalee Country Club to raise a\ €reness and funding for operations and capital projects. We continue to have significant volunteer suppori from many individuals and groups. We did attract many recrealional riders and new visitors - all eager to get out into the outdoors and explore during Covid. On the whole lhe challenges have been significant and beyond our control. The 2018-19 impacts were calculatd using Dean Runyan data for 2O!7 as provided by the Chamber CEO Special Note: we host two very large hunter/jumper shows that combined run for 14 days and attract a very well- healed clientele. Based on information we've gathered from surveying this population, about 40% of those who stay overnight rent expensive vacation homes in Suncadia, Roslyn Ridge and elsewhere locally. We determined from a local vacation rental agent the average house rental price and # bedrooms; we assume 2 people per bedroom which results in S0f.SO/night/person for accommodations plus other daily expenses we estimate at S5O, for a combined assumption of S111.sO/person. This assumption was applied to 4O% of this unique segment of overnight show attendees (versus the 551/day assumption for "other" overnight provided by the Dean Runyan Report. 20t4 2016 20172015 2018 733 513 70% 75 S13,125 75 s3,750 363 S3i.,218 S48,093 849 388 45% 46 58,602 47 52,444 295 525,310 s36,416 L,470 985 67% 150 526,25O 150 S,75oo 685 S58,910 s92,660 L,t4O 753 66% 85 51,4,815 85 54,2so 583 S50,138 569,263 1,005 439 44% 53 59,434 54 52,754 332 s28,552 54o,t40 (27) 2,903 (r2) L4,343 17,246 L5,495 93% 6,702 51,067,850 4,t92 $328,843 5,201, 5447,286 5L,843,979 (1_7) L,830 (2r) 22,997 24,827 20,229 88% 7,ggg S1,380,575 5,462 S482,655 6,877 5s91,422 $2,454,652 (22l,7,L9s (17) 28,968 30,153 27,246 95o/o 9,257 51,,444,997 L4,2LO 5L,0r0,437 7,277 5625,822 S3,081,25G (25) L,32r (20l.28,L98 29,5I9 29,339 96% 1.L,1.44 S1,983,660 L1,,720 5992,787 5,474 5470,764 53,337,ztL (18) 218 (20) 31,933 32,1,51 29,51,1, 92% 13,229 52,473,823 L2,577 $987,784 3,8r7 5328,262 S3,789,869 796 399 so% 49 S9,163 50 s2,600 300 s25,8oo S37,563 (29)3,938 (18) 27,L49 3L,O87 28,962 93o/o 12,946 52,420,902 1.'J.,7L5 s982,380 4,O57 s348,902 53,752,L94 2019 33%260/o 8o/o L4%0.90/o 2019 Horse Park Visitors by Zip Code of Residence , Ctcslon€.r Forest N g,tr$*,-0 oI I I 0 ! :ti. t.al tg I I Sandpcrrl Map data 02020 Google ge d'Aleile 6 0 I 9 ios(:ph I e9 il:. t i:: i ;; a. t.l::11:,tli, Mt.
