SOLID WASTE AND MAINTENANCE MINUTES

Regular Meeting
TUESDAY 1 2:00 PM I January12, 2021
Board members present Brett Wachsmith, Chairman, Laura Osiadacz, Vice -Chairman and
Commissioner Cory Wright.
Others: Patti Johnson, Lisa Lawrence, Kady Porterfield and one member of the public.
Meeting called to order at 2:00 p.m.
Discuss Recycling Development Grant Application: Patti informed the Board about a Grant
Opportunity from the Department of Ecology that is only available to Counties, Cities and
Universities. Patti said that she reached out to the University, the Economic Development Group
and Yakima County to put a package together on glass and other recycling options including a
feasibility study. Discussion was held on the short turn around on the Grant, that it is 100% pass
through and that it coincides with the Contamination Outreach and Reduction Plan (CROP) that
is required by the State to be in place by July 1St
Transfer Station Update: Patti informed the Board that the final grant application was
submitted last Friday and that she should hear by the end of January if it goes to the next step for
review and if so, the next schedule update is June of 2021.
Patti informed the Board that the final 100% design for the New Transfer Station Utilities and
Road design will be submitted to the City next week for review and if approved construction
would begin in April. A brief discussion was held on names for the street and the deadline is
Friday.
Update on Facility Dude: Patti informed the Board that Facility Dude will be on site Monday in
the Courthouse to begin facility assessment.
Update on Shady Brook Demo Project: Patti informed the Board that the original phase of the
project was finished, that she is finalizing paperwork on three more units and has asked the
Contractor for a change order since the contract has not been closed. Patti stated that Fulcrom
will be in to perform the hazard assessment on the additional units.
Discuss 1208 University Way: Patti informed the Board that someone was interested in the
wood from the building. Discussion was held on taking the building down or leaving it in place
until a plan is place. Further discussion was held on the Event Center using it for storage.
Discuss Bowling Alley Project: Patti informed the Board that she received an email from Tom
Beckwith that included several different options for the project that will allow for an overarching
RFP:

General Project Updates: Patti informed the Board that she has been working with Kady on the
HVAC Project and that it should be completed by the end of the Month.
Patti informed the Board know that she is still working on the negative air project in the jail.
