RESOLUTION NO. 2020-_______
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE REFUND OF THE FIRE ASSESSMENTS
COLLECTED ON AIRPORT LEASES STARTING AUGUST 2020
WHEREAS, on August 1, 2020, the County Auditor’s office started collecting and billing the lessees of the
Airport, which was previously done in the Department of Public Works, AND
WHEREAS, the language in the lease contracts states a fire protection assessment would be assessed to the
lessee for “ln lieu of taxes for fire protection services”, AND
WHEREAS, the County Auditor has been collecting the funds for the fire assessment from the lessees and
placing those funds in a special account.
WHEREAS, verification from the County Assessor shows they lessees are being assessed property taxes on
their buildings which includes taxes for the Fire District.
WHEREAS, On November 23, 2020, the Budget & Finance Manager presented to the Board of County
Commissioners information regarding the Airport leases for the fire assessment fees, AND
WHEREAS, after discussion the Board of County Commissioners approved the funds collected since August
2, 2020 should be returned to the lessee
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Board of County Commissioners direct the County Auditor to credit
the lessees who have paid the fire assessment fees since August 2020, and to not charge the fire assessment that is
included in the lessee agreements.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the fire assessment fees collected and remitted to the Fire
District prior to August 2020, will be resolved later between the Fire District Commissioners and the Kittitas County
Board of County Commissioners.
