BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />COUNTY OF KITTITAS <br />STATE OF WASHINGTON <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2020-_______ <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE REFUND OF THE FIRE ASSESSMENTS <br />COLLECTED ON AIRPORT LEASES STARTING AUGUST 2020 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, on August 1, 2020, the County Auditor’s office started collecting and billing the lessees of the <br />Airport, which was previously done in the Department of Public Works, AND <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the language in the lease contracts states a fire protection assessment would be assessed to the <br />lessee for “ln lieu of taxes for fire protection services”, AND <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the County Auditor has been collecting the funds for the fire assessment from the lessees and <br />placing those funds in a special account. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, verification from the County Assessor shows they lessees are being assessed property taxes on <br />their buildings which includes taxes for the Fire District. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, On November 23, 2020, the Budget & Finance Manager presented to the Board of County <br />Commissioners information regarding the Airport leases for the fire assessment fees, AND <br /> <br />WHEREAS, after discussion the Board of County Commissioners approved the funds collected since August <br />2, 2020 should be returned to the lessee <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Board of County Commissioners direct the County Auditor to credit <br />the lessees who have paid the fire assessment fees since August 2020, and to not charge the fire assessment that is <br />included in the lessee agreements. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the fire assessment fees collected and remitted to the Fire <br />District prior to August 2020, will be resolved later between the Fire District Commissioners and the Kittitas County <br />Board of County Commissioners. <br /> <br />DATED this 15th day of December 2020, at Ellensburg, Washington. <br /> <br /> BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br /> KITTITAS COUNTY, WASHINGTON <br /> <br /> __________________________________________ <br /> Chair <br /> <br /> __________________________________________ <br /> Vice-Chair <br />ATTEST: <br /> __________________________________________ <br /> Commissioner <br />_____________________________ <br />☐ Clerk of the Board <br />☐ Deputy Clerk of the Board
