weekend of October)
Overview
We have been holding this event since 2013, with attendance growing to approximately 9,000 for the
month, including the patch, haunted forest and field trip attendees.
During daytime event hours, we offer wholesome fall family fun with the following activities:
o Pick your pumpkin straight from the patch
o Hayrides
r Petting zoo
r Duck races
o Various lawn games
. Pony hop races
r Jack's Kid Zone
r Pumpkin chucking
r Corn maze
o Retail shopping
o Concessions
o Haunted forest and corn maze
o Fire pits
r Fireside concessions
Fire Safetv
All structures that will be used during the event are permanent and permitted structures. As a result,
the Fire Marshal has been on-site, as recently as October 2OI9 for inspection. We will contact the Fire
Marshal's office prior to this event.
Finally, we have a retired firefighter/EMT onsite during all event hours
Buildines
There are several structures on the property, with four being used during event hours. All structures are
as follows (as shown on the attached site map):
Evening event hours offer the following:
(A) 12x16 storage building - holds all haunted forest props and supplies
(B) 36x36 pole building/shop - will be used as retail space during daytime event hours *permitted with
the County Building Dept.
(C) 74' storage silo - used as misc. storage
(D) 12xL6 storage building - holds all farm tools, seeds, etc.
(E) 10x12 carport - used as a BBQ shack
(F) 14' silo - used as our prep kitchen *This building has been refurbished with countertops, sink,
stovetop, fridge, service window, etc.
(G) 10x20 carport - used as covered seating for guests
E, F and G are all permitted as commercial structures with the County
Concessions
All raw meat concessions are cooked off-site at a commercial kitchen and prepped on-site. We obtain an
event permit from the Co. Health Department each year. Concessions consist of the following:
o Pulled pork sandwiches
o Chicken salad sandwiches
o Hotdogs
o Veggie burgers
r Coleslaw
o Baked beans
e Chips
o Baked goods
. Espresso
o Bottled water
. Pop
Restrooms
We have three standard porta-potties and one ADA porta potty available at all times, as well as two
hand washing sinks. They are strategically placed between the petting zoo and concessions area. They
are provided by Brown and Jackson. They provide cleanings on Mondays. During the event itself, we
have Clorox wipes available to guests and we do spot cleanings throughout the day.
Parkins
Upon arriving at the farm, a parking attendant helps you park. Handicap parking is provided closest to
the main area. Out at the road (Wilson Creek), traffic impact is non-existent, as it is not a heavily
traveled section of road. Guests coming and going have a clear line of sight and easy access to turn left
or right. Additionally, we are making improvements to the parking lot this year, adding curbing to better
outline expected parking patterns
Garbaee/Recvcling
Garbage cans are made available throughout the event, with about a dozen on-site in all. Approximately
4-5 are designated for recycling. At the end of the event, we empty alltrash/recyclables into a large
dump trailer (keeping them separate). Then, regular weekly visits are made to KCSW for
dumping/recycling.
lnsurance
ln addition to our farm/umbrella coverage, we purchase event insurance each year as well. We are in
the process of having Kittitas County added as per the application. ln addition, a statewide agritourism
liability law went into effect in 2017 . Our event is covered under this new law and appropriate signage
will be in place to communicate this to guests (please see attached C). *PLEASE NOTE THAT WE CANNOT
OBTAIN OUR EVENT INSURANCE UNTIL 3O-DAYS BEFORE THE EVENT
Music/Noise
We play music through a PA/stereo system during the daytime event hours of LOam and 4pm. The two
speakers used are directed away from any neighbors and the volume is set at a reasonable level, as to
just add ambiance music for the event.
We play music for our guests through a single speaker, during our evening event hours of 7pm to 10pm
Some sound effects are used as well throughout the forest. However, it's all nature related (i.e. coyotes
howling, etc.), so it blends right in O
Neighbors
Our farm is 36 acres and is heavily forested throughout the majority of the land. The closest neighbors
we have are located just off Wilson Creek Road. The first, are our tenants. We rent the small house at
the front of the property and the tenant's lease includes an addendum that spells out the close
proximity of the farm and what to expect and accept in October (please see attached D). This will be the
current tenants fourth season with us. The second closet neighbors sit just to the North of us. Their
home/shop are at the front of the property, with no dwellings near the event area. They, the Jenkins,
are very supportive of our event. They make multiple visits each year and we provide their family with
V.l.P. passes as a thank you for their support.

The separate departments/activities include:
2020 Covid-l9 Plan - The Patch
We are excited to be in Phase 3 and look forward to giving families safe, outdoor activities to enjoy
together in our wide-open spaces. While we may be biased, we feel that a trip to the pumpkin patch is
the perfect activity to get people safely outside and enjoying a small slice of normalcy.
Going into the season, we are looking at the overall "big picture" and looking at the individual
departments that make up our multi-faceted business. But first, an overview of the operation:
o Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 4pm, beginning September 26th, through October
o Guest traffic is spread out throughout the day, with hourly traffic averaging 100-150 people,
depending on the weekend
r We are a 36-acre farm, located at 618L Wilson Creek Rd
. Approximately 20 acres is used for our fall activities
r All activities take place outside, with the exception of pumpkin/activity sales transactions, which
take place inside our open-air gift shop
Pumpkin Patch
2-acre pumpkin patch where guests can easily socially distance throughout the 30+ rows
Hand sanitizer will be made available at the patch entrance
A wheelbarrow sanitation station will be set-up for guest sanitation of the hard surface wheelbarrows
(much like localgrocery stores)
Corn Maze
The nature of corn mazes is to enjoy the maze as a family and not participate with others, not part of
your group
Our 2-acre corn maze is staffed at the entrance, allowing for occupancy to be controlled
No equipment is used for the maze, leaving nothing to be sanitized
Petting Zoo
Given our inability to sanitize the animals, their long hair/fiber and the repeated touching by guests, we
have decided not to operate the petting zoo this year
However, we will have the animals "on display", in their usual pens, for viewing only
To keep our guests at a safe distance, a secondary fence will be put up about 6 feet away from the pens,
preventing a ny touching
Hayrides
Our hay wagon is open on all sides/top
There is a single row of straw bales going down the center of the wagon. This creates a seating
arrangement where no one is facing one another. Everyone sits back-to-back, facing out
As with all activities on the farm, the hayride attracts families. Because of this, we feel it will be easy to
distance guests from separate families
Hand sanitizer will be provided at the entrance
The handrail alongside the stairs and surrounding the wagon is a stained/sealed wood and will be easy
to sanitize between rides
Jack's Kids Zone
Our play zone is designed for kids from 2 to about 1"0
It consists of:
r A wooden play structure with swings, monkey bars, mini rock-climbing wall and cargo net for
climbing
o A grassy slide hill with tires to climb to the top and several slides coming down three sides
o A ballgame where baseballs are thrown through various sized holes
o Buried treasure hunt which provides %ton of corn kernels, in a L0' galvanized trough, for the
kids to climb in a search for candy
o Tire swings
o Ride on bouncy pony hops (large inflatable plastics balls), with cloth horse shaped coverings
e Playhouse
o Sit on diggers/excavators in a sand pit
We plan to remove the buried treasure activity, as it involves kids "swimming" in corn kernels that can't
be sanitized and the buried treasure is small candies, which are often eaten on the spot, causing hand-
to-mouth contact. We also plan to remove the cloth coverings from the pony hops, leaving a smooth
plastic surface that will be easy to sanitize
The remaining activities have primarily solid surfaces and don't encourage any hand-to-mouth/hand-to-
face contact. They are simple swing, slide, play activities, no different than our city parks. We will be
sanitizing allsurfaces every 30-45 minutes and sanitizer/paper towels willalso be made available for
parent use, should they want to sanitize a specific play space for their child(ren) before they play
Pumpkin Chuckers
These are four giant sling shots, side-by-side, placed six feet apart by the nature of the activity
This is a fully staffed activity that again, attracts families - often competing against one another
While the sling shot itself is made of cloth, it will be easy for the person staffing this station to require
hand sanitizer be used prior to starting
We will also be wrapping the single cloth handle in a solid surface material, that can be sanitized as part
of our cleaning schedule
Trike Course
These are solid surface "race" trikes designed for kids and adults
Again, these are family units riding together/racing each other
Hand sanitizer will be made available and each trike will be sanitized after use
Putt-Putt Golf
Family units will be play against one another
The clubs are solid surface
Hand sanitizer will be made available
Clubs will be sanitized after each use
Various Yard Games
We have several yard games available for people to enjoy around the gift shop area. They include
o Rubber duck races (hand water pumps)
o Horse shoes
. Giant Jenga
r Cornhole
We believe that having hand sanitizer available and including these in our regular sanitizing schedule will
mitigate potential exposure
Silo Caf6
All cooking is done off-site, in a commercial kitchen. We use our Silo Caf6/BBQ Shack as a prep kitchen
and food service area
We obtain a permit from the Health Department each year and have continually had excellent
inspections
Overallfood prep/service will include the following:
r All employees will be masked
o Those handling food will be wearing masks and gloves
. QR code/single use menus will be provided
o Guests, guided by social distancing signage, will order and pay at one point/window and pick-up
food at the next
r As always, we will follow good food handling practices (i.e. gloves, tongs, those handling food
won't handle money/or will change gloves, etc.)
o Credit/debit cards and/or prepayment at the gift shop will be encouraged
o Guests will have plenty of room to stand and wait for their number to be called
r lf a line forms, we will ask folks to find a table and we will deliver their order
r All ketchup/mustard, etc. will be in single service containers
r All tables will be sanitized after guest use
o Hand sanitizer will be made available at the food service area
r Proper table spacing is a non-issue, as we are in the wide open, with plenty of room
Gift Shop
The gift shop is a36x24 pole building with 12-foot ceilings and two roll-up 8'garage doors, which are
always open during business hours
This space is used for paying for both agricultural and retails goods, as well as activities
ln order to accommodate social distancing while in the shop, displays will be removed/reduced and
signage will be added
We will also be adding a pay station, which will spread people out and move them through quicker
And, as is everywhere there is guest contact on the farm, we will be making hand sanitizer available and
using a regular sanitization schedule
Now that we have provided detailed information on each of the separate areas/activities, we would like
to discuss the "big picture". We want to make it clear that across the board:
All employees will be wearing masks
Practicing social distancing
Wearing gloves when working food service
Adhering to regularly scheduled sanitization rotations
Guest expectations will be set based on the State/County mandates at the time of the event (i.e. mask
requirements, etc.)
Given that our business is conducted almost entirely outside and the fact that we are spread out over 20
acres, using separate space for very different activities, we would like to look at our capacity based on
that space/activity area, much like movie theaters are managing capacity per screen and not as an
overall building. We would like the following areas to be considered separate spaces:
1.) Food service - Silo Caf6, BBQ shack and picnic area
2.) Jack's Kids Zone play area and the pumpkin chuckers - This would include the roped off space
dedicated to kid's play and the chucking area that is immediately adjacent
3.) Pumpkin patch
4.) Corn Maze
5.) Putt-Putt golf
6.) Trikes
7.) Gift shop - this will include the area immediately outside the gift shop (i.e. rubber duck races,
corn hole, horse shoes, etc.)
8.) Hayride
*We don't see the need to call out the petting zoo, as we feel it will not be a major attraction, given the
guest's inability to interact with the animals. We believe this will be a simple "walk by" area.
Finally, we will be transitioning to an admission-based pricing structure this year as follows:
No admission required for -
o Pumpkin patch
r Silo Caf6/food service
o Gift shop
o Yard games
o Pumpkin chuckers (pay to play/per pumpkin)
Flat rate admission per adult and children 2+ will be required for-
e Hayride
. Petting zoo
r Corn Maze
r Jack's Kids Zone
. Trikes
. Putt-putt golf
This structure requires staffing at each of the above-mentioned admission areas (to check for admission
bracelets). This will also lend itself to being able to easily manage social distancing, capacity, etc.
We also believe, based on other farms experiences when moving from non-admission to admission-
based pricing, that we will have considerable pushback on the change. Based on the feedback we've
received from pumpkin patches on the westside of the state and elsewhere in the country, guest
numbers will drop considerably and take two to three years to catch up.
Please see the attached site map (not to scale), outlining each of the buildings and activities as well as
the Google Earth image, showing the overall scope of the property.

2020 Covid-19 Plan - The Haunted Forest and Corn Maze
As a "one stop shop" for fall fun, we also operate a Haunted Forest and Corn Maze in the evening. Event
details are as follows:
o Friday and Saturday nights from 7pm to 1"0pm, beginning the second weekend in October,
through October (Oct. 9th through Oct. 31)
o This is a weather dependent activity
r The overall patch area is shut down, however, we use the Silo Caf6/BBQ Shack for selling tickets
and light concessions and the picnic area is used for staging guests
o The nature of the activity is family oriented/groups. Guests do not go through with anyone
other than the family/friends they came with
o Again, given the nature of the activity, we already have to control capacity and space people
out. We send groups in one at a time, with recommended group size of no more than 4, but we
will allow as many as 6 max
o Slower nights, we send groups in 3-minutes apart. Busier weekends we send groups in 2-
minutes apart
o lf the average group size is 3 (most people come in pairs), we can have no more than 60-90
people per hour. Given that the first and last hour are slowest, we don't actually see more than
200 people per night
o Guests are directed to buy their tickets at the Silo Caf6/get a number, then wait by the firepit to
be called
o Coffee, smore kits, etc. can also be purchased at the BBQ Shack
o Once at the firepit, guests are given a safety talk/instructions/back story
o Then, we callgroup numbers one at a time
o Guests first wind their way through the corn maze, where there are no actors (we want to
reduce the tendency for folks to stray off the path when scared)
o Once they exit the corn maze, they enter the forest, where they are met by actors in various
roles.
r lf they survive @...ttrey are invited to go to the "survivors" firepit (a 2"d firepit) and hangout to
enjoy drinks/snacks
Based on what l've just shared, we've looked at operations in three parts; Silo Caf6 staff, guests and
actors. Considerations and plans for each are as follows:
Silo Caf6/BBQ Shack staff - Operations would mirror daytime/patch operations. Concessions are
permitted with the Health Department and standard food handling practices will be followed. Masks
and gloves will be worn, hand sanitizer will be made available for guests and social distancing will be
practiced
Guests -
r Existing county/state mandates will be expected of guests (i.e. masks, socialdistancing, etc.).
o Additional firepits and/or propane heaters will be added, to spread people out as they wait for
their number to be called
While a very small number of people choose to stay once they've gone through, we will not
encourage it, thereby not encouraging guests to congregate afterwards
Lanterns are provided to each guest before they enter. Those lanterns will be rotated and
sanitized after each use
Actors -
o Each actor will be assigned their own mask, costume and props
o These will be sanitized after each use
e Social distancing will be practiced along the haunt route. We already have a "You don't touch
them, they don't touch you" rule for guests and actors
o ln order to offer more scares, we spread actors out. They occasionally work in groups of 2 or 3,
however, it is done in zones, which are much more than 6 feet in size. Forexample, one actor
might stage at the right side of the path to distract the guest with a simple movement, while the
second actor surprises them from the left for a "jump scare"
ln all, we again feel that this a great way for people to safely enjoy some time outside with family and
friends. This activity is conducted entirely outside and the very nature of the business creates safe
spacing and limited capacity.

Attendance Addendum
Since opening in 2013, we have had free admission to the farm. This allowed guests to pay for individual
activities. lt also allowed guests to come to the farm, take part in all the free offerings, then go home
without making a single purchase. That said, it has been our intention to review our overall pay
structure.
After attending a NAFDMA conference in February this year (which promotes agritourism across the
country), it became clear that paid admission is a must, both for us and our guests. However, while farm
after farm recommended the change, they all said it would be a horrible transition. One farm owner
called it, "the year from hell", as she described the push back they received from guests.
l've added this addendum because I briefly mention the change in our patch Covid Plan, however, I
didn't go into on the repercussions this will have on attendance.
After speaking with well over two dozen pumpkin patches from all over the country, we learned that
they saw a drop in overall attendance of 30-50% when they rolled out paid admission. That's HUGEI And
while that's terrifying to me as a business owner, I strongly believe that this is the time, both for our
bottom line and in an effort to curb attendance during the current Covid environment.
So, when we stated an average of 100-150 guests in any given hour (depending on the weekend), we
want you to understand that those numbers will drop by 3O%-5O%, putting the average hourly guest
count at 50-75 people, across the entire farm.
Finally, I would also like to point out at that a state level, pumpkin patches across Washington are
moving forward. Bob's Corn Maze & Pumpkin Farm, the largest patch in WA, is moving full steam ahead:

First, we are a working farm. We are licensed with the state as an agricultural entity. That said, we have

Second, we are financed by the USDA. Our mortgage is carried by the United States Department of
Agriculture. We also operate via a USDA operating loan. This loan is based solely on crop sales. Crop
sales, as defined by the USDA, include all crops such as pumpkins, winter squash and corn maze
admission.
I share this to reiterate that we a farm, not a business looking to put on an event. Viewing our operation
as an "event" was essentially born out of necessity in regards to our buildings. During our October
harvest season, we utilize several Ag buildings that are not permitted for commercial use. ln order to
have those buildings inspected and deemed suitable for temporary commercial occupancy, we apply for
a "special event permit" each year. This does not negate the fact that we are a licensed farm, making us
an essential business.
As an essential Ag business, we are permitted to sell our crop through U-pick and our on-farm store.

As part of our agricultural structure, we also produce what the USDA refers to as "Value Added
Products": Value-added products are defined by USDA as having: A change in the physical state or form
of the product (such as milling wheat into flour or making strawberries into jam). The production of
a product in a manner that enhances its value (such as organically produced products). These are sold
both through our farm store, as well as our on-farm food services.
ln conclusion, our crop and food sales are deemed part of an essential business, as defined by both the
state and USDA. The only other aspect for consideration are the activities we provide while on the farm.
tt{
As we outlined in our Covid plan, we have already made the decision to eliminate activities that are high
risk (i.e. petting zoo, corn kernel buried treasure and cloth covered pony hop races). That leaves us with
the same basic activities available across the county, at various city parks (i.e. swings, slides, tire swings,
etc.). One can easily determine that if it is allowed within a city park, it should be allowed on the farm.
We have also shared with the county that we are taking measures this year to reduce overall attendance
numbers at the farm by introducing paid admission. We expect this to drop our hourly attendance by as
much as 50%, brining overall estimated hourly visitors to just 50-75 per hour.
Additional resources:
We are members of the North American Farmer's Direct Marketing Association (NAFDMA), which is a
national and international organization that supports agritourism. They offer resources throughout the
year, including webinars, conferences, farm tours, etc. They have also been very responsive to farm
needs during the Covid outbreak, offering an abundance of resources. One such resource is a webinar
we will be attending next week called "Agritourism Preparations for Fall 2020". This will be a roundtable
discussion of farmers from across the country.
We also work closely with the Washington State Farm Bureau, where we go for current state
information and resources. One such resource are the free masks we ordered for our farm workers.
I think it worth noting that we are not trying to recreate the wheel, or even creote it for that matter.
Working farms across the state are already operating, using standard Covid practices for all essential
businesses. Below are three examples of some of the largest operators in our state, all from separate
counties:
