KITTITAS COUNTY <br />DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS <br />AGENDA STAFF REPORT <br />AGENDA DATE: July 7, 2020 <br />ACTION REQUESTED: Request to Establish County Road Number <br />supporting the painting of the North Thorp <br />Highway -Yakima River Bridge <br />BACKGROUND: Kittitas County has been selected to receive $2,486, <br />250.00 from the Federal Local Bridge Program for <br />the North Thorp Highway -Yakima River Bridge <br />repair and painting. The North Thorp Highway <br />Bridge spanning the Yakima River needs <br />preventative maintenance to extend the life of the <br />fracture critical structure. The existing paint system <br />has failed throughout much of the truss's bottom <br />chord, floor beams, stringers and bearings. The joint <br />repairs will include strip seals at the ends of the <br />truss and silicon sealant at the floor beams. The <br />truss portal members damaged by traffic impacts <br />will be repaired by heat straightening or replacing <br />members. The concrete spalls at the piers will be <br />repaired and the bridge will be painted. <br />INTERACTION: <br />Public Works <br />RECOMMENDATION: Approve the Resolution establishing a county road <br />number supporting the painting of the North Thorp <br />Highway -Yakima River Bridge <br />HANDLING: Return two (1) originals to Public Works <br />ATTACHMENTS: Resolution establishing CRP No 302-20 <br />LEAD STAFF: Mark Cook, Director <br />
