COMMISSIONERS' MINUTES
KITTITAS COUNTY, WASHINGTON
COMMISSIONERS CONFERENCE ROOM
REGULAR MEETING
MONDAY 10:00 A.M. JULY 23, 2018
Board members present: Chairman Laura Osiadacz (arrived at 10:00
a.m.); Vice-Chairman Obie O’Brien & Commissioner Cory Wright.
Others: Mandy Buchholz, Deputy Clerk of the Board II; Patti Johnson,
Solid Waste Director/Project Manager; Dan Carlson, CDS Director;
Clay Myers, Undersheriff and Lisa Young, HR Director/Interim Event
Center Director.
REGULAR MEETING DEPARTMENT HEAD SHERIFF
Clay Myers, Undersheriff asked the Board to grant permission to
explore separating out the Fire Marshal duties. He stated that he
would like to explore something like a Fire Code Official (in CDS)
and a Fire Marshal in the Sheriff’s Office and explained why and
what he initially thought it would look like. He stated through the
years there are always Fire Marshals that excel in some areas and
aren’t as strong in others and by separating the duties they can
both do the best in their respective areas. He stated that he would
like the Board to support an internal team looking into all impacts
of what it could look like.
The Board expressed their appreciation for the forward thinking
“outside the box” idea and expressed their support for Undersheriff
Myers working with HR, CDS and Prosecutor to bring forward a full
synopsis.
Undersheriff Myers also stated that he spoke briefly about it with
KVFR and they were enthusiastic about the idea.
