KITTITAS COUNTY, WASHINGTON
COMMISSIONER’S CONFERENCE ROOM
SPECIAL MEETING
TUESDAY 9:00 A.M. MARCH 6, 2018
Board members present: Vice-Chairman Obie O’Brien and Commissioner Paul
Jewell. Excused: Chairman Laura Osiadacz.
Others: Mandy Buchholz, Deputy Clerk of the Board II; Mark Cook, Public
Works Director; Lindsey Ozbolt, Planning Official and one member of the
public.
SPECIAL MEETING THORP FEMA MAPS PUBLIC WORKS
Vice-Chairman O’Brien opened a Special Meeting receive an update from
Public Works Director Mark Cook on the FEMA Flood Maps in Thorp,
Washington.
Mark Cook, Director of Public Works, stated that he just wanted to give
the Board a quick briefing on Flood Maps for the Thorp area. He
explained that he has been working FEMA Region 10 Floodplain Mapping
Staff and approximately 3 weeks ago issues relative to the Thorp area
came to light. He stated that the last time mapping efforts were done
was in 1984.
The Board asked questions of the two maps presented and it was noted
that the projections are for a 100 year flood projection.
The Board asked Director Cook to find out what the velocities are and
stated that they would like additional information. Director Cook
notified the Board that FEMA is shooting for a release date of 3/9/2018
for the new maps. Director Cook stated that he would brief the Board on
his next Study Session and that his Staff is planning public outreach
once the maps are published.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:29 a.m.
