2017-11-28 MINUTES 1
COMMISSIONERS' MINUTES
KITTITAS COUNTY, WASHINGTON
COMMISSIONER’S CONFERENCE ROOM
SPECIAL MEETING

TUESDAY 3:00 P.M. NOVEMBER 28, 2017

Board members present: Chairman Paul Jewell; Vice-Chairman Laura
Osiadacz; and Commissioner Obie O’Brien.

Others: Julie Kjorsvik, Clerk of the Board and Patti Johnson, Solid
Waste/Maintenance Director/Project Manager.

SPECIAL MEETING COURTHOUSE ADJACENCY COMMISSIONERS

At 3:00 p.m. Chairman Jewell opened a Special Meeting to consider
comments received from County Departments relating to adjacency in a
new Courthouse.

Patti Johnson, Solid Waste/Maintenance Director/Project Manager said
after their last meeting she sent out a copy of the floor plans to
all County Departments and asked for comments relating to adjacency
in a new Courthouse.

Chairman Jewell said there was a fundamental problem with the
overall project as it’s too expensive and there is no way they could
afford a building of that size at a rate of $550.00 per square foot.
He thought they should scale back the project in order to get more
of a price tag of approximately $20,000,000.00 instead of over
$50,000,000.00. The Board reviewed comments Ms. Johnson received
from County Departments on adjacency. They also discussed various
options on ways to connect to the jail as well for the Courts.
There was discussion on which offices would be best fit for reasons
of security as well as for ease of the public in order to access
those offices that have a large amount of traffic every day.

The Board of County Commissioners directed Ms. Johnson to relay
their comments back to the architect and to see if the per square
footage amount would change with the proposed changes they had
discussed.

Meeting adjourned at 3:55 p.m.

KITTITAS COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
CLERK OF THE BOARD KITTITAS COUNTY, WASHINGTON

Julie Kjorsvik Paul Jewell, Chairman
