COMMISSIONERS' MINUTES
KITTITAS COUNTY, WASHINGTON
COMMISSIONERS CONFERENCE ROOM
REGULAR MEETING
MONDAY 9:40 A.M. NOVEMBER 20, 2017
Board members present: Chairman Paul Jewell; Vice-Chairman Laura
Osiadacz & Commissioner Obie O’Brien.
Others: Mandy Buchholz, Deputy Clerk of the Board II; Jill Scheffer,
Event Center Director.
REGULAR MEETING DEPARTMENT HEAD EVENT CENTER
Jill Scheffer, Event Center Director presented the Board with an
aerial photo of the Event Center grounds. She asked the Board to
consider a right of way (ROW) vacation request and stated that the
City is in favor of the proposed location on Alder Street.
The Board authorized Ms. Scheffer to begin exploring the process and
expressed their support, noting they didn’t wish to exchange/trade
for other property and asked for Ms. Scheffer to report back.
Ms. Scheffer expressed her concerns for long time community events
that she has no contact information for, no contracts with, and yet
they expect the facility at no cost. She stated that Steve Johns who
has retired is the one who handled a lot of those events and just
knew how things were wanted and when he left all of the
institutional knowledge was gone. The Board encouraged Ms. Scheffer
to work with Legal and have them draft a waiver/release of claim
type contract that each event organizer that comes in for their
respective event will need to sign with the County and for her to
report back at a later date.
