COMMISSIONERS' MINUTES
KITTITAS COUNTY, WASHINGTON
COMMISSIONER’S CONFERENCE ROOM
SPECIAL MEETING
MONDAY 1:00 P.M. AUGUST 21, 2017
Board members present: Chairman Paul Jewell; Vice-Chairman Laura
Osiadacz; and Commissioner Obie O’Brien.
Others: Julie Kjorsvik, Clerk of the Board; Jill Scheffer, Event
Center Director; Lisa Young, Human Resource Director; and Greg
Zempel, Prosecutor/Fair Board Member.
SPECIAL MEETING FAIR WORKERS EVENT CENTER
At 1:00 p.m. Chairman Jewell opened a Special Meeting to discuss a
request for temporary labor for the Event Center/Fair Workers.
Jill Scheffer, Event Center Director, explained there was a
substantial need for additional work to be done at the Event Center
and would like the Board to authorize her to hire an extra 4-5
employee’s and allow them to begin working 8 days prior to the
regular starting date for temporary Fair workers. Their current
Staff has been working a lot of overtime and they have most likely
gone over budget at this point. She indicated they should have
approximately $12,000.00 left over in their Professional Services
fund to help offset the additional costs. She said she’d like the
temporary employees to begin work as soon as possible. Although they
have filled most of the other positions at the Fair, they are still
in need of custodial workers. She has been working with HR on a
master list of temporary/seasonal positions and after this year they
will have a better idea on the true needs.
The Board supported Ms. Scheffer’s request. Lisa Young, Human
Resource Director said the employees would have their orientation
with HR tomorrow and their first day of work would be on Wednesday.
