07/27/2017 MINUTES 1 COMMISSIONERS' MINUTES KITTITAS COUNTY, WASHINGTON COMMISSIONERS AUDITORIUM SPECIAL MEETING THURSDAY 3:00 P.M. JULY 27, 2017 Board members present: Chairman Paul Jewell; Vice-Chairman Laura Osiadacz; and Commissioner Obie O’Brien. Others: Julie Kjorsvik, Clerk of the Board; Mark Cook, Public Works Director; Lucas Huck, Engineer; Jill Scheffer, Event Center Director & Ellensburg City Council Member; Karen Hodges, Planner III; and approximately 20 members of the public. SPECIAL MEETING WA WILDLIFE RECREATION COMMISSION COMMISSIONERS At 3:00 p.m. CHAIRMAN JEWELL opened a Special Meeting with representatives from the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Coalition and the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office. He reviewed work that has been going on in the County to help improve recreation opportunities. He said the meeting was to receive information about existing Statewide opportunities that may assist and increase entities efforts in obtaining grant funding for certain projects which fit into certain categories. He described the County’s Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Plan and the prerequisite to filing an application for grant programs administered by the Recreation and Conservation Office. He noted they would also be holding an open house in Cle Elum at 6:00 p.m. to provide information and answer questions. ANDREA McNAMARA DOYLE, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR and ROB SENDAK, EXTERNAL AFFAIRS MANAGER OF THE WASHINGTON WILDLIFE & RECREATION COALITION reviewed the organization’s program and roles. They presented information on existing Statewide grant opportunities for recreation improvements and how they could assist entities. The WWRP is the State’s premier conservation and recreation program which provides matching funds to create new local and State parks, protect wildlife habitat and preserve working lands. They reviewed some of the funded projects in Kittitas County that included critical habitat, trails, farmland preservation and a splash pad at a local city park. The next round of grants will be in May 2018 and alternate years thereafter.
