COMMISSIONER’S CONFERENCE ROOM
SPECIAL MEETING
MONDAY 1:00 P.M. APRIL 17, 2017
Board members present: Chairman Paul Jewell; Vice-Chairman Laura
Osiadacz and Commissioner Obie O’Brien.
Others: Mandy Buchholz, Deputy Clerk of the Board II; Brett
Wachsmith, Treasurer and Mike Hougardy, Assessor.
SPECIAL MEETING MANIFEST ERRORS TREASURER
At 1:04 p.m. Chairman Jewell opened a Special Meeting to discuss
with the County Treasurer and County Assessor a proposal regarding
manifest errors.
Brett Wachsmith, Treasurer presented the Board with information
about what other Counties are doing to manage/handle the processing
of manifest errors.
Mike Hougardy, Assessor explained that manifest errors can be
corrected w/o evaluation. He stated that there are clerical errors
and are pretty rare. Mr. Wachsmith explained that the 3 year limit
for collecting on manifest errors would be done by Resolution and
would help to relive what could be some considerably large liability
to the County if there was no 3 year cap. He reviewed what Counties
have done if they haven’t opted for the 3 year cap and they are
looking at each case on its own and as they come forward. Mr.
Hougardy explained that refunds are only issues to the person who
has been paying the tax and not the person who inherited the
property.
The Board directed Mr. Wachsmith to follow up with the Junior Taxing
Dist., to see where they stand on the issue and prepare a Resolution
for them to consider at the next Agenda Session.
