REGULAR MEETING

REGULAR MEETING COMMISSIONERS
1) Call to Order – 10:10 AM
2) Prosecutor Staffing – Prosecutor Zempel requested the
ability to hire a DPA III for the Civil division. He
indicated he had the funds to cover it in 2014 but wasn’t
sure about next year. The Board authorized the hire with
emphasis on the potential risk at the next budget cycle.
3) HR Updates
Recruitment – Director Young provided an update on the
pending hire of a new KVEC Director; she also provided
two extra help options for Fair preparation: 1) WCC
Ecology Corps/$3500 for a crew of six (one
supervisor/five workers)/10-hour days August 18, 19, 20,
and 22; 2) Total Employment/$3200 for a crew of five (one
supervisor/four workers). The Board approved hiring
both.
HR Closures – Director Young reported that HR would be
closed August 26-29.
Other – Director Young asked if she could attend ACA
training August 20-21; HR would have to be closed due to
other staff in interviews; the Board did not approve.
4) Executive Session – Personnel Matters
RCW 42.30.110(g) To evaluate the qualifications of an applicant
for public employment or to review the performance of a public
employee. However, subject to RCW 42.30.140(4), discussion by a
governing body of salaries, wages, and other conditions of
employment to be generally applied within the agency shall occur
in a meeting open to the public, and when a governing body elects
to take final action hiring, setting the salary of an individual
employee or class of employees, or discharging or disciplining an
employee, that action shall be taken in a meeting open to the
public;
The Board entered Executive Session at 11:00 AM to discuss
the performance of a public employee. Anticipated length:
20 minutes; anticipated action: None. At 11:20 AM the
Board extended the Executive Session for an additional two
minutes. At 11:22 AM the Board exited Executive Session
with no action taken.
