COMMISSIONERS' MINUTES
KITTITAS COUNTY, WASHINGTON
COMMISSIONERS CONFERENCE ROOM
REGULAR MEETING
MONDAY 9:40 A.M. AUGUST 8, 2016
Board members present: Vice-Chairman Paul Jewell & Commissioner
Osiadacz. Excused: Chairman Obie O’Brien.
Others: Mandy Buchholz, Deputy Clerk of the Board; Jim Goeben, IT
Director; Mickey Webb, Event Center Director.
REGULAR MEETING DEPARTMENT HEAD KVEC
Jim Goeben, IT Director stated that he had received a Service
Request from Mickey Webb, Event Center Director asking for a review
of “square” technology to accept credit card payments at the Fair.
He reviewed areas he felt the Board should consider prior to making
a decision as well as 3 different options (see handout). He
explained that his recommendation is to be safe and compliant and
move forward with option 1, that being use Square with a separate
FairPoint DSL connection and a separate wireless network, noting
that the additional cost would be for Square, the phone line,
wireless modem and Staff time to setup. He reviewed some advantages
and disadvantages to his recommendation and the potential budget
impact.
The Board authorized Mr. Goeben to move forward with option one as
inexpensively as possible and option number 2 as a backup.
