COMMISSIONERS CONFERENCE ROOM
SPECIAL MEETING
TUESDAY 3:00 P.M. FEBRUARY 9, 2016
Board members present: Chairman Obie O’Brien; Vice-Chairman Paul Jewell
and Commissioner Gary Berndt.
Others: Julie Kjorsvik, Clerk of the Board; Judy Pless, Budget &
Finance Manager; Greg Zempel, Prosecutor; Gene Dana, Sheriff; Jerry
Pettit, Auditor; Clay Myers, Undersheriff; and 1 member of the public.
SPECIAL MEETING STATE AUDITOR FOLLOW UP WITH SHERIFF COMMISSIONERS
At 3:00 p.m. Chairman O’Brien opened a Special Meeting with
representatives of the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Department,
following up on the January 28, 2016 State Auditor Exit Conference
and Management Letter issued.
Clay Myers, Undersheriff, indicated that each item referenced in the
State Auditor’s Management Letter had been addressed and policies
put in place. He reviewed a policy they now have in place that
states any contract which involves any type of funding must be
approved by the County Commissioners.
The Sheriff’s Office is currently working with the Auditor’s office
to come up with an overtime rate to charge other entities. In the
meantime, all law enforcement services relating to overtime with
private entities have been suspended until a rate has been
determined and approved through the necessary process.
There was follow up discussion on the Management Letter item
relating to an unauthorized purchase of wave runners as well. The
Sheriff’s Department indicated this issue had been taken care of as
well.
