COMMISSIONER’S AUDITORIUM
SPECIAL MEETING
TUESDAY 4:00 P.M. FEBRUARY 9, 2016
Board members present: Chairman Obie O’Brien; Vice-Chairman Paul
Jewell and Commissioner Gary Berndt.
Others: Mandy Buchholz, Deputy Clerk of the Board; Mickey Webb,
Kittitas Valley Event Center (KVEC) Director. Rodeo Board
Members/Representatives: Gene Dana; Scott Pernaa; Brett Wachsmith;
Brian Twardoski. Fair Board Members: Greg Zempel, Clay Myers &
Roylene Crawford.
SPECIAL MEETING RODEO BOARD CONTRACT DISCUSSION COMMISSIONERS
At 4:00 p.m. Chairman O’Brien opened a Special Meeting to discuss
with representatives from the Ellensburg Rodeo Board (ERB) the
Contract they have with the County that will expire in 2016.
Commissioner Berndt provided an Agenda and a brief recap of where
the meeting left off at the end of 2015. He outlined talking points
for the meeting including: Arena study update and timelines; Current
Agreement status & the current unresolved issues as well as a
potential Proposal from the Rodeo Board.
The following decisions were made following roundtable discussions
and negotiations with the ERB and the BoCC: A three year extension
of the Agreement was agreed to. They agreed that for 2017, 2018 &
2019 $50,000.00 annual rent and for 2018 & 2019 an escalator CPI or
not less than 1% for the rental fee; the ERB will provide their own
insurance of 5 million dollars; there will be no vendor cap on
vendors in the Rodeo Arena area. They determined that a punch list
would be developed by the KVEC Director and the ERB for routine
maintenance issues to be accomplished prior to the Rodeo.
