COMMISSIONERS CONFERENCE ROOM
SPECIAL MEETING
TUESDAY 1:00 P.M. FEBRUARY 9, 2016
Board members present: Chairman Obie O’Brien; Vice-Chairman Paul Jewell
and Commissioner Gary Berndt.
Others: Julie Kjorsvik, Clerk of the Board; Judy Pless, Budget &
Finance Manager; Brett Wachsmith, Treasurer; Greg Zempel, Prosecutor;
Jerry Pettit, Auditor and 1 member of the public.
SPECIAL MEETING STATE AUDITOR FOLLOW UP COMMISSIONERS
At 1:00 p.m. Chairman O’Brien opened a Special Meeting to follow up
with the Kittitas County Treasurer after the January 28, 2016, State
Auditor Exit Conference.
Brett Wachsmith, Treasurer provided a history of the issues that
were brought forth in the recent State Auditor’s report which took
place prior to him being elected as County Treasurer. He reviewed
how he had first become aware of the problems followed by the
interaction he had with the Prosecutor and Auditor’s office as well.
There was discussion by the Board of County Commissioners,
Treasurer, Auditors office, and Prosecutors office on suggested
policies, procedures, and a checklist for the future to address the
prior issues.
The Board of County Commissioners agreed to have the Finance
Committee take a look at the recommendations and the creation of a
checklist. The checklist could then be adopted by the County
Commissioners by a Resolution, noting a target date of March 15,
2016.
